Adventures in Online Shopping: 1site1price.com

BB reviews 1site1price

When I initially heard about 1site1price.com—a new discount fashion store where everything's one price—I was so utterly turned off by the lame name that I decided it wasn't worth my time. But then my curiosity got the best of me (oh, how quickly things can change), and, well, I placed my first order. Keep reading to hear how it went (and to see what I bought!)

The less than stellar website design over at 1site1price.com didn't instill this budget shopper with much confidence, but the fact that every item cost only $29.99 made me delve a little deeper. A Fornarina black blazer? Cute. A denim jumpsuit? Not so much.

Since I wasn't looking for anything in particular, I figured $30 would be a decent price to pay for shoes, so I clicked on over to their "Boots" category. To my surprise, I found a kickass pair of genuine leather lace-up boots by Farylrobin.

Not only have I been jonesing for some round-toe rugged above-the-ankle boots, but I have always wanted to own a pair of Farylrobins. For whatever reason it's never quite worked out between us (mostly cuz the brand is pricey), so I seized the opportunity and placed my order. Originally $204.99 (supposedly), my drastically marked-down Farylrobin Espresso 'Lacey' Leather Boots cost $7.99 to ship and arrived via FedEx just 3 business days later (I placed my order Friday morning and received the boots on Wednesday morning.)

My parcel was wrapped in modest brown paper, and included a bare-bones invoice sheet and return information. Nothing fancy, but I assume this helps keeps prices low. I slipped my boots on after fumbling with the laces for a bit and knew I had scored big time. These boots are awesome; if I had to guess why they were overstock or whatever, I'd say most people don't have the patience for real lace-ups, but I don't mind them at all, especially considering how comfortable and perfect these boots are.

I should also mention that my experience with customer service at 1site1price.com was really prompt and helpful: After I filled out my shipping address, their system knocked off a zero from my zip code. I emailed them with my problem and received a response minutes later letting me know that my address had been corrected. Nice.

It remains to be seen whether or not my great find was a fluke, after all, the selection at 1site1price.com is pretty slim right now. But I'll definitely keep them on my radar. I think the thrill of the hunt—er, I mean the low prices and great customer service—will keep me coming back.

These guys contacted me AGES ago, and I honestly assumed it was a scam. Amazing that it's not, and congrats on your Faryl Robins. I, too, have lusted after many pairs and never yet bought one.

I thought the same thing when they contacted me months ago! I think if they had a better looking site, it may be more appealing to users and less sketchy. Good to hear that they're legit! I'll eagerly await for when they have a bigger selection.

those are nice. I am considereing getting but wanted to know - is there any part of them that isn't leather that would look odd if i got them dyed black? besides the shoe laces that is. Are they all leather otherwise?

thanks
#8 moth on 2009-01-22 16:28 (Reply)
they're made entirely from leather, so i don't see why you couldn't dye them black. hope that helps!

So, i lusted over those boots all day yesterday and finally bought them against my better I-didn't-get-to-try-them-on-and-i-will-hate-to-hate-to-pay-to-return-them judgment. But I loved them - I had to do it. With dresses, skirts, pants - they will be great! Thanks for the tip!

how do the sizes run? i normally wear a 39, an 8.5 or 8. little help?
#18 ashley on 2009-01-26 16:26 (Reply)
I usually wear a 9.5. They only had these boots in a 9 or 10, so I sized up and I'm glad I did, they fit well and I can wear them with thick wool socks, too. I think the 9 would have been too small for me.

OMG, I ordered a pair of Livs boots--duh b/c they're $30 & not $140--and I just got my package today! I wishhhhhhh I would've taken a picture of my wrapped up Livs box b/c it wasn't impressive! It seriously looked like a 5yr old packaged & sent my boots! But totally worth my 10 day wait (from the time I ordered to the day I received)! They're based out of Canada s0o it makes sense. Love, love, loveeee 1site1price :-)

I just got my boots and black Fornarina skirt and I LOVE IT!!! The box came gift wrapped and it made me feel like someone sent me a present! The boots look fantastic on me and the skirt was great. The best thing about them is I never have to look at the price!

do you find the width of the soles to be narrow/normal/wide? how about the shaft? you look like you've got nice legs since you're able to tuck your jeans into the boots. i on the other hand...

i shouldn't even be asking questions since i said i was going to stop buying non-work appropriate clothes/shoes. they look amazing, though. so tempting and inexpensive! i do need a pair if i ever decide to take the odd trail ride here and there. that's me trying to rationalize them.

Here's what I can tell ya: I'm wearing skinny jeans that taper almost like tights, then I tightened the laces quite a bit on the boots. I often find that shoes are too narrow for my feet, but these boots are wide and comfy (round toe helps). There's also ample room in the ankle area. If only 1site1price.com offered free returns, you could try them on for yourself! Until then, online shopping is unfortunately always something of a guessing game. Hope this helps.

After thinking about it for a couple of weeks, I finally gave in and made the purchase. I already have too many shoes but I wanted a pair of casual boots that I can wear on a snow day that I don't have to worry about getting dirty.

I received the item today and am overall happy with the boots. The laces are kind of a pain, the leather is on the thin side and the insoles can be a bit more cushy but they are sturdy and have the rugged look that I was going for. For the price, it's a good purchase.

Sizewise, I ordered a half size larger than usual because I'd probably wear thick socks underneath. The toes of the boots are pretty roomy so I think I would have been fine with my normal size. The shaft of the boots are a bit wide for me since I have very thin calves but with the jeans tucked in and the laces tighten, I don't think it'll be a problem (although the laces are way too long and I'm not quite sure what to do with them...)

The only real problem I had was the delivery. For whatever reason, this company required a signature in person. Fedex Ground demanded that someone signs for the package when the driver delivers to my house. This was a real problem since I'm not home during the day. Picking it up at their facility was not an option since they are located so far away. So I ended up working from home just to receive this $30 package! It doesn't make sense! I sent an email to the customer service but haven't heard back yet. I'd like to make another purchase in the future, but I can't stay home just to receive the package!

Update: I heard from the customer service. They said they just stopped requiring a signature for orders under $150. If your order is over $150, you can ask them to ship without requiring a signature as well. Wish they had made this change a bit sooner!

Oh no! I found this on the site:
"1site1price.com is closed. We hope to return in the future. "
