Yesterday at Target (I went to check out the Felix Ray handbags but my store didn't have them yet), I tried on a cute chartreuse dress paired with an aubergine cardigan, and was instantly reminded of this cute, casual outfit that Elle McPherson was spotted wearing last summer. Not surprisingly, I didn't transform into a supermodel in the Target dressing room, BUT I was inspired to be bold with my colors and find some cool new accessories, which can update any look for very little money. My nifty collage may look daunting, but when you break it down, it's not that much (and you don't have to wear it all at once):
Wooden beads: Any hippie boutique or global-trends store like Pier One or Cost Plus World Market will have these for cheap. On the high-end side of the spectrum, Elizabeth and James features wooden beads in their too-cool-for-school jewelry collection.
Macrame bead bracelets: Urban, Forever 21, Target and Claire's all have this trend for cheap. If you're crafty, you can make your own pretty easily, too.
Studded leather bracelets: Again, check the cheap-o stores for this edgy look which will toughen up any frilly or floral spring outfit. Linea Pelle and Free People carry the pricey versions.
Boho belts: Some of you have been raving about the great belts at Target this season, including tribal, bohemian or otherwise globally-inspired styles. Check out the selection at Charlotte Russe and Forever 21, too.
Thin headbands: Talk about a simple, super cheap accessory that can really up your style quotient in an instant. For a casual weekend look, toss hair up in a messy bun, pony tail or loose chignon, then top with a headband that you pick up at the drugstore, Walmart, etc.
Tube bracelets: I still love my rubber bracelets with gold-tone tube embellishments, and they're still a sweet trend. New variations can be found on Etsy.com, or at Forever 21, Target, Urban or Aldo.
Embellished sandals: I have rhinestone embellished flat sandals from Target and studded gladiators that I bought at Akira two summers ago, and (yay!) they're still in. This summer, spruce up your basics with some fun sandals featuring fringe, studs, ruffles, beadwork—you name it.
All items featured above can be found in the widget below. P.S. The shirtdress and cardigan both come in a wide array of colors, not just green and purple, so you could mix and match any way you want.
