Poll: Is The Budget Babe All That Budget-Friendly?

Comments
I love what you're doing, and the prices are about right or just a little too expensive personally. This is coming from the girl who probably hasn't paid more than 10-15 dollars for any piece of clothing excepting winter coats, boots, and leatherwear. Shoes included. So, I love what you're doing. Price points are fine. Keep rocking this blog!

I love what you're doing as well. But it seems like as of late you're budget picks are gradually becoming less-budget friendly.

I think you're getting it just about right - for things that will (or should!) last more than one season, I'm willing to go up in price a bit, but I think your suggestions for fast fashion and those basics that never last long (t-shirts, camis, etc) are great! Shoes are always a hard call - sometimes I'm drawn to the cheap shoes, but I almost inevitably regret it (with the exception of one great pair of black ballet flats from Payless that've lasted me about 7 years!)

Thanks for doing what you do!

You are doing a kick ass job. I love your budget friendly picks. I have picked up quite few things in the past after seeing them on your blog. Right now since I am cutting back on my shopping big time, visiting your blog and still not heading to the mall is my real control test:-)

You're doing great! You post up a lot of affordable stuff and then some eye candy, which is great for girls like me who think full-priced BR or J.Crew or such is a splurge. I really like your blog, even when I'm not shopping for anything in particular, because you have some great features that are a lot of fun to read. I'd suggest more outfit posts! I want to see what YOU are wearing!

I think you're doing a great job. I love that the focus is on really low cost pieces most of the time. That is the most important part I think.
I stopped reading another budget fashion blog as the focus seemed to stray far from budget and move to selling a book or asking readers to provide too many "tips" as content. I also love that you actually try on the clothes and post photos too as opposed to sites that work exclusively from PR photos. It probably helps folks who are less familiar with the stores or lines you're talking about.

I love your blog. Sometimes, I personally wouldn't spend as much money as some items, but they certainly aren't overly priced. I love this blog and I check it multiple times a day!

I think you rock BB! Keep up the good work, the price-points of the items you're posting are just right I think. Shoes are tricky, but I think your picks are right on. I love how you post pics from your outings - Target, Gap, and fitting room pics! Two thumbs up from me here!

I like the site. I like getting outfit ideas and looking at new trends. But, I feel like most of the budget finds are always at forever 21. I like the store's looks...but as a 20 something myself, it seems like their clothes are always too short or the sleeves/chest are too tight. Its good for an idea of a cute skirt, but I can't buy them. So... kudos - but too much Forever21.

I agree. Love the site (it's awesome), and I visit every day, but I can't do the F21 items because they just don't fit me (body wise). Store variety would be nice, but like I said, the site is still awesome as it is.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I was having some self doubt for a bunch of random reasons... it's good to know how everyone feels, I aim to provide useful yet fun information. Many thanks! :-)

personally the prices are absolutely fabulous and because of you i know when all the specials are going on. however alot of your stuff is from forever 21 & the only problem i have with that is that the forever 21's in new york city are completely horrible & i can never get the cute stuff lol

Overall the prices are just about right for budget fashionistas. If they're more pricey they're usually things worth the investment or you provide a cheaper alternative. So good job!

I think you post a great mix of items within a reasonable range. Some are super cheap steals, and some are a pricier investment but still less expensive alternatives to designer/couture pieces.

I'm sure lots of readers will have different standards of what is "budget-friendly" and what is not depending on their situation or stage in life. I'm sure readers range from teenagers who mostly shop within the Delias/Charlotte Russe/Forever 21 range, to young college students or working women who have a bit more disposable income but still need to keep a tight fashion budget, to girls who can afford to frequent Bloomingdales and Kitson but still love a good steal. I think you do a good job of posting enough of something for everybody.

I love how you update constantly with juicy new fashion that IS possible to wear out. The "look for less" and "dress by number" posts are my favorites! Plus the focus is always on fashion, you don't stray off.

I'm actually a Canadian girl so I'm always kicking myself/blaming karma when something awesome happens down in the states. For example, the Anna Sui-Target clothing line. I'm debating to beg a friend so I can buy that blue dress!

Majority of the time the items featured are reasonable. Occasionally some things are a bit steep in my opinion. Like a $50 jacket for example. Granted that may be a bargain for some, personally it's a bit much for me. On the other hand if it's something I just can't live without..I'll drop the cash if I can. I really enjoy this blog and think you're doing an amazing job.

You are doing just great, girl!! You are one of the hardest working bloggers I know and you provide alot of good variation for your audience.

Everyone's definition of "budget friendly" is different, and I think that's important for all of us--budget bloggers and readers alike--to keep in mind. That said, I think your selection is right on target. You feature some higher priced things, some extraordinarily low. I don't take it personally if something you recommend is out of my price range; after all, this blog isn't exclusively online for me to read. And while at times even the budget version of a designer item is still $80+, it's always considerably less than the original, and just fun to see the comparison. Keep on rocking it, BB! Your hard work and enthusiasm show, and you deserve some recognition for it. :-)

I think you're right on for the most part. Every now and again I think it's still pretty expensive, but usually it's because the item is something that isn't my style and I doubt I'd buy so I casn't rationalize spending that amount of money on said item.

I love your blog and you rock!
#17 Erin on 2009-08-10 09:52 (Reply)
I also think you are doing a fab job. As others have stated sometimes the items posted are not so budget friendly and a wider variety of stores would be nice.
Other than that it's perfect!

Hit or miss. Some stuff you post like leather purses or boots for less are just right. You don't have to spend a ton of cash on leather goods to get good quality. I think it's okay to spend a bit more money for wardrobe staples like a good purse, boots, jacket etc, because those will carry you through the years.

Now, some of the tops/dresses etc. are a bit too pricey. But I like that you give options.

Side note: If you could do a post on which boots for fall are best for the petite without spending too much that would be great! I spent a few hours looking at leather boots from knee-high to pull ons yesterday and I'm so overwhlemed with all the choices!

PS: What exactly does a 'pull on' boot mean? Your blog is certainly recession friendly!

I think it's a great balance, personally. Even when the budget option is still a bit expensive, I can use the inspiration to find it somewhere else.

I also agree that the predominance of Forever 21 on the inexpensive side has bugged in the past, but it's gotten way better since they launched their so-called "plus size" line. The exact same items may not be available in that range, but I can approximate it. http://www.apparelncs.com/rd_p?p=186122&t=9518&a=4801-thebudgetbabe&gift=4801

Thanks again!

I love that you have a range of prices. So that if I am willing to pay a lot for one piece and less for others I can figure it out. (i.e. the leather coats, different choices in prices and quality)
Great job!
