Five Good Reasons to Be a Budget Babe

Strapped for cash? Slave to fashion? Here are five good reasons to become a bona fide Budget Babe:

  1. Saving cash is hot. Having a little money put away in a savings account will give you a sense of pride, security and confidence—and nothing looks better on a woman than confidence!

  2. There are more of us than there are of them. According to WSJ.com, only 200 or so women in the world actually buy true haute couture.

  3. The median household income in the United States is $46,326 (from the U.S. Census Bureau). Nuf said.

  4. Buying less is better for the environment. While it's not something we ever want to think about, that stockpile of shoes in your closet may end up one day in an inglorious landfill.

  5. Thinking for yourself is always in. Enjoy looking and learning about fashion, without consuming everything they tell you to.

i agree! no matter how little you make, you can always manage to put away SOMETHING. and it does give you so much self-confidence to have your own money. you mention a good point about the environment. one of the most jarring aspects of shopping today is all the clutter in the shops. department stores used to have wide aisles and clothing tastefully displayed. now everything is on long racks, aisles are cluttered, the emphasis is on buying more, not buying quality. we live in a shopping culture. nothing wrong with shopping as long as we have our priorities straight. when shopping becomes the primary way of bonding with your family, as it is in so many households these days, it's time to stop and think.

So true, and well put! I totally agree. I think there are way too many things out there (and this is coming from someone who loves her things!) Just because you have money doesn't mean you should spend it. Plus there are so many other great things to do with money then buy yet another pair of shoes (if they're not on sale of course) and you don't really need them! Think of each unneccary fashion accessory you buy each week the way ex-smokers think of a pack of cigarettes- if you hadn't bought that one thing each day/week, in twenty years you could have had a porche! Budget power!

Ok, I'm probably going to get heat for this, but the last comment I agree with and I'm going to take to the next level- That whole "considering the small things you buy each day idea" From the Beauty experts opinion, what you put in affects how you look too! And that brings me to coffee! Lets not forget how much even a Budget Babe can spend a day on coffee from cough starbucks! And coffee is not the best thing for your face, its very dehydrating! And all that caffeine can cause havoc too! Plus all those mixed drinks have things in them that just aren't good for ya! Consider making your own, and watch the savings pile up. And then buy lots of lipgloss and nailpolish! LOL!

Ah yes, the latte factor. A daily cup o' joe from Starbucks can really add up.

But let's not malign coffee! This healthy beverage is good for the body and mind (see http://www.oprah.com/omagazine/200708/omag_200708_coffee.jhtml)
Hey, we like scientific data that backs us up :-)

The Budget Babe brews her java at home (much more economical and tastier this way).

i've started boiling tap water and keeping it in a pitcher to drink during the day. think about all those plastic water bottles that don't get to pollute the planet if everyone drank tap water. my husband says it's ok to drink from the tap but old habits die hard! so it ain't just the java, ladies!
