Adventures in Shopping: Woodbury Common Designer Outlet Mall

Adventures in Shopping: Woodbury Common Designer Outlet Mall

This past Labor Day, I visited the world-famous Woodbury Common Premium Outlet Mall in Central Valley, New York. This upscale outlet mall boasts 220 stores including Balenciaga, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Prada, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Tory Burch and many, many more. I didn't really think the deals were all that great, but I still had fun! Here are some of the highlights from my trip. Has anyone else been to Woodbury Commons? What did you think?

Ladies, I think I got a slight buzz just looking at all the Yves Saint Laurent shoes, like these towering Trib 2s.

Remember this bag?! I had chills.

The line to get into Gucci was nearly two blocks long! I chose not to wait.

The sparsely decorated interior at Dior

A skirt at Dior marked down from $3,615.00 USD to $954. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything at Dior!

A supple leather Miu Miu clutch marked down from $675 to $405.

Another Miu Miu bag featuring a diamond patchwork design.

Inside Chloe. I die.

The crowd included some of the most impeccably dressed shoppers I've even seen at an American mall.

A Burberry trench at Off 5th marked down from $2,195 to $1,499.99. Wait a sec, that's not a deal!

Matt Berson sandals marked down from $170 to $71.98.

The racks at Neiman Marcus' Last Call were stocked with handbags by Marc Jacobs, Linea Pelle, Botkier, Cole Haan, Kooba and more.

I tried on a bunch of designer shoes and noted my size in each brand. If an amazing deal comes up at an online sale, I'll be prepared.

The highlight of my trip was, without a doubt, when I tried on an authentic Balenciaga dress, a complicated, over-the-top garment in a futuristic floral print. In other words, fabulous!

Amazing! I'd love to go there and just try stuff on and look around! Too bad it's about 12 hours away.

the lady you took a picture of is definately korean. i went to the mall on labor day and have seen some korean ladies dressing up to go to the mall. i live in a korean town so whenever i see a korean, i know it. koreans have GREAT fashion sense...especially middle aged women, i just wish i would age well like they do, in a few years.

I was glued to the screen while reading browsing through these photos! I guess if you're willing to splurge this is the place to go. Looks like a lot of fun!

Damn I never went I think I would faint. I live in NJ so it wouldn't be that far either.

Wow I wish there was something like that where I live! I can't believe they let you take pictures!
#5 giselle on 2009-10-25 10:59 (Reply)
Um, yes...they "let" me take pictures. Hehe. Actually, it was kinda weird but every store had a big beefy bodyguard at the door! I'm not used to that. But I can see the need. Oh! And we saw some cops arrest a shop lifter at Dolce & Gabbana. Dra-ma!

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE Woodbury! I went to college in Albany and we'd take day trips a few times a semester. My best friend lives 10 minutes away from there now and we know from experience Labor Day is the WORSTTTTTTT weekend to go....lines, lines and more lines. They BUS people in in giants groups!! And the stores are always a HUGE mess over holiday weekends.......if you can get there on a regular weekend it would probably be an even better experience than what you had! :-)

I practically had to pay my friends to go with me on Labor Day! They thought I was nuts. Guess I'm just a glutton for punishment. But yeah, definitely listen to Nikki and avoid big holiday weekends. The deals are a little better but it's not worth waiting 45 minutes just to get out of the parking lot! :-)

I love to shop but it was the only time in my life I KNEW what a boyfriend at a mall feels like LOL

That looks AMAZING! Wish they had something like that in CA in the bay area. Did you buy anything?
#7 Lynn (Homepage) on 2009-10-25 12:30 (Reply)
I was hoping I could avoid that question...because sadly I didn't buy anything (just lunch, haha)! I was a little overwhelmed and kept holding out until it was too late, we were all exhausted and it was time to drive 1.5 hours home.

I've really want to visit this outlet - not sure if it's worth the drive. Would love to check out the Tory Burch outlet.

The Tory Burch store was beautiful. I wish my house was decorated like that! They had Reva flats in about a dozen colors for about 40% off the regular price. Not too shabby.

I enjoyed window shopping there when I visited NY this past April. I do agree that the prices are still high, but it was fun looking!
#9 J on 2009-10-25 16:41 (Reply)
I've never had a chance to make it out to Woodbury Commons but I'll need even steeper deals to afford those items!

... not sure if this is fact or fiction, but I've read in a lot of personal finance books that outlet mall stores will actually inflate the "original" price to make it appear that you're getting more of a deal than you truly are -- Sort of like Black Friday "deals" (on which there have been all kinds of exposés, from the local news to 60 Minutes). It doesn't stop them from sometimes being fun to visit, but I think you were smart to hold off!

I've been to its West Coast counterpart, Desert Hills Outlet Mall in Cabezon, CA, near Palm Springs several times. There you also get the long lines...it's INSANE on Black Friday. 90% of the shoppers are Asian.

I find the deals at some the outlet stores are meh (i.e. Gucci), but last year I got a pair of Hogan shoes at the Tod/Hogan outlet that retailed for $345 for like $100. Not too shabby.

I hope they open a Tory Burch at Desert Hills before I head there the next time. That would be awesome.

We have a great outlet mall near San Antonio in San Marcos. Found some pretty decent stuff at good prices. I love my Dooney and Bourke purses and found a great deal there. I got an almost $400 purse for $170. It's red and leather. It was love at first sight!
#13 Tracie on 2009-10-25 22:55 (Reply)
Being from Jersey I have made several trips up there...Never really got any amazing deals not have I really ever been impressed.
#14 killa kate on 2009-10-25 23:14 (Reply)
I agree with killa kate. I have been there many times and I just don't see the big to-do! Many of the stores are company stores and not outlets. Also many designers specifically make clothing just for the outlets.
But,one store that there is always a crowd is the Coach store. Whenever I go to I wonder what Coach is giving away.

Well at least you had a good time. I wouldn't really call those deals that I could afford. OH well. People around hear get excited for the Gap Outlet :-) ha ha. I would die if I went into Chloe though!

I've been to Woodbury and I wasn't that impressed. Most of the prices are still out of reach for the average budget fashionista such as myself! I also thought the selection wasn't great, but maybe that was just me.
#17 Jo from Canada on 2009-10-26 09:38 (Reply)
I've been before, and the deals aren't that great, but it's fun to go. I went on a regular weekend, though. I got a super cute Tory Burch tunic for $100.
#18 Kelli on 2009-10-26 10:27 (Reply)
I admired bags mainly! They are suitable for clothing of any style! Want to have all of them:)
#19 Susan on 2009-10-26 10:48 (Reply)
I'd take some major money from my savings and wait to get in one store: CHANEL. XD
#20 Jen on 2009-10-26 14:38 (Reply)
i go to that outlet! i haven't been there in over a year, but i do enjoy shopping there. i never go for really "high end" designers..but i remember their dooney outlet and their coach outlet were both amazing!
#21 fashion court (Homepage) on 2009-10-26 17:09 (Reply)
Wow! I don't think you'll find a better price for a Coach bag. If I ever visited that store, I'd spend hours in there!
