Trend Alert: Capes and Capelets

Natalie Portman wore an ink blue Ferragamo double-breasted jacket with a decidedly cape-like silhouette to the Broadway opening night of Hamlet at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City.

One of this season's most daring coat trends is the cape. Designers are always reinventing this old-school style to make it modern and relevant for today's fashionista (consider this cool city cape by Elizabeth and James or this showstopping cape by Derek Lam). Look for super-wearable coat styles, or short, cropped capelets that can be paired with jeans or a dress. If you're concerned about this trend's staying power, pick a budget-friendly piece like this military-inspired cape from ASOS ($59 on sale) or this adorable capelet from Forever for just $27.80. Would you wear a cape?

My mother inlaw was cleaning out their old house which has been used as storage for a long time, and BAM vintage wool cape just in time for fall.

I'd be interest in seeing how to pair up a cape with an outfit to keep it looking sleek.

I would probably wear a more structured, shorter capelet because with my curvy frame, too much fabric can be tent-ish.

I really like the Forever 21 designs!

I really love the wool capelet from F21 and the fur capelet from Charlotte Russe. I really want to find one in navy like Natalie Portman's. I have a million black coats and jackets

They had a bunch of capes at Target earlier this week, several different colors. I really love the look of capes, especially with long gloves!

love, love, love the one by BeBe because it has a belt and the cape is alittle longer, will have to wait for a good sale or better still for it to hit Ebay.
