Bizarre Vintage Ads: What Were They Thinking?

Just when we thought advertisements couldn't get any weirder, we stumbled upon these strange yet amusing vintage ads at EatLiver.com. Each holds fascinating clues about a bygone era (although we'd rather leave some of these mysteries unsolved). Click the thumbs to get the full-size pics...

Can't decide what's more disturbing: the hotdogs or the sweaters.

If you can stop laughing long enough to see the fashion in the ad, you'll notice some fab diamonds, red nails, sculpted eyebrows, and a dramatic off-the-shoulder emerald green gown. Who says smoking isn't glamorous? (JK!)

And we thought M·A·C was cutting edge maquillage! Note how polite the writer is in their critique (unlike so many Internetters these days). And what's a "beauty culturalist"? Hehe

The Frankenstein contraption in this ad makes Botox look pretty tame, no? Goes to show people have always been obsessed with appearances to some degree.

Timeline of-a de Mango

Our love for an old fashion flame, Mango, was recently rekindled after visiting their amazing online shop, www.mangoshop.com.

If you're not familiar with the Spanish fashion chain, it's very similar to Zara (also from Spain) and H&M—runway-inspired looks at reality-based prices. Mango is hot on the heels of Zara with its rapid expansion into U.S. markets, and well ahead of both Zara and H&M as far as online offerings go. Expect to see a lot more Mango here at The Budget Babe!

Love It or Leave It: Sarah Jessica Parker "Covet" Commercial

Watch the video above: It's the latest commercial for Sarah Jessica Parker's new fragrance called Covet.

Now tell us: Are you awestruck? Enamored? Do you love, love, love SJP and covet her new scent?

Or are you startled and frightened? Perhaps even scared to death?

Fine line, people. Fine frickin' line.

(We just love the massive amounts of tulle and the red-soled Loubies.)

Let us know—do you love her new commercial or would you rather leave it curbside??

Thank God for Synthetics: Perv-Proof Panties

While we normally advocate natural fibers whenever possible, we're more than willing to make an exception for these made-in-a-lab undergarments: ShotGuard Inner Shorts.

Developed by textile company Cramer Japan, these panties are made from a nylon and polyurethane weave that blocks infrared rays.

Why is this important, you ask? Because not only do creepy pervs with cameras and cameraphones often snap under-skirt photographs of women in public places—many of these scumbags are now modifying their videocam's night-vision mode, allowing them to see right through fabric.

Nasty, but this is the world we live in. (Lindsay, Paris, Britney-take note.)

The infrared-blocking underwear will sell for $17, and matching bras are in the works. We say that's a small price to pay for protecting your petunia.

Now if only they made panties with padlocks...
