Don't you think? Balmain isn't a designer I usually pay much attention to, but a recent post over at Who What Wear highlighted the designer's Fall 2008 collection in a way that got me excited to see more. Naturally, I wanted to see if I could find looks inspired by the glam/punk/rock'n'roll collection that were within my budget. With elements like plaid, zebra, metallics, fringe and lace aplenty, I discovered that injecting some of Balmain's edgy vibe into your own wardrobe is totally doable this season. Conrad shows off her curves in this classic, feminine style (hers is by Diane von Fürstenberg), but any gal with good taste can get the same look on a budget. We found a fabulous sheath dress by BGBGeneration (the least expensive diffusion line from BCBG) at Dillard's. Pair yours with studded black pumps by rsvp--a STEAL at just $9.95 at 6pm.com, one of the best discount shoe shops on the web. Wear your hair up to show off the neckline, and to draw attention to a simple, disc pendant necklace by Helen Ficalora...perhaps something with a not-so-subliminal message like "vote." This look certainly has ours.

I must admit that I am usually biased against store-brand anything. This applies to makeup, as well as my cereal. But, for the sake of being fair (and following my success with Ulta brand nail polish) I decided to try out Ulta’s Automatic Eye Liner. All I can say is, I feel so stupid for waiting so long to try it! This stuff is just fantastic. It's automatic (always a plus, no sharpening), long-lasting (it seems to be smudge-proof even on the lower lid, which is an amazing feat in and of itself--I even tried rubbing it and nothing showed up on my finger!) and waterproof (good for those of us who watch too much Oprah and cry all the time). I picked up classic black, a lovely shade of teal blue, and raisin, a deep purple color that is an exciting addition to any fall makeup palette. After this eye-opening experience, I'll never doubt store brands again.
