Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Philosophy Hope In a Jar

Philosophy Hope In A Jar Dupe

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite splurge-worthy beauty products and their budget-friendly counterparts. This week, we’re chatting anti-aging moisturizers (!). Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

Philosophy Hope In a Jar is 100% a cult classic when it comes to anti-aging moisturizers, but we can all agree that $67 for a 4 oz. jar is pretttty pricey…even if it does boast its medical market origin. As much as I LOVE Hope In a Jar (and yes, it really is that amazing), once I discovered St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Facial Moisturizer ($5.29, 10 oz), I was instantly obsessed. Just like Hope In a Jar, the St. Ives version is super moisturizing and also promises to help with fine lines and wrinkles.

Get Smooth for Summer with the New NAIR Moroccan Argan Oil Line

Get smooth all summer long with Nair's NEW Moroccan Argan Oil line

Summer's just around the corner, and that's why I'm so excited to be teaming up with NAIR to celebrate their new Moroccan Argan Oil collection - the only at-home hair removal product line infused with 100 percent natural Moroccan Argan Oil!

We all know Moroccan Argan Oil is where it's at when it comes to things like our hair – so why not our skin?! I will take anything that makes summer shaving more pleasant and less time-consuming, and that's why I'm loving the new Nair line. It's a beauty must-have for Memorial Day Weekend when you just want to throw on some shorts and sandals and relax – and not worry about stubble. Trips to the spa can be costly and time-consuming, and that's why Nair is such a lifesaver. You can get that spa experience (minus the awkwardness of getting waxed by a stranger!) with spa results at home at a fraction of the price.

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: YSL Touche Eclat

YSL Touche Eclat drugstore dupe

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products - and their high-end equivalents. This week, we’re chatting highlighter pens (!). Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

The first time I tried the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, I was completely confused why I needed it…but then I did some research and became completely OBSESSED. So what the heck does it do? Essentially it’s a luminizing pen that brightens the skin by drawing in light. It helps to hide signs of being tired, making it perfect to use after a long night out or an early morning. My personal favorite use for the product is to create fuller-looking lips; you simply apply it in the hollow of the chin and around the contour of your lips and, I swear guys, my lips look instantly fuller. But $41 for a tiny pen? Ugh. Don’t get me wrong, the YSL Touche Eclat is a CLASSIC; it’s loved by every makeup artist and celebrity that you’ll ever meet…but I recently found a great dupe:

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Clinique Chubby Stick

Clinique Chubby Stick for less!

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products - and their high-end equivalents. This week, we’re chatting tinted lip balms! Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

The Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm was definitely the first BIG, “chubby” crayon-like lip balm that I can remember; in fact, I remember when it launched and thinking “wow, I kind of love the idea of a big lip balm with some actual GOOD color to it” since other lip balms I’ve tried usually, how do we say it, lack? I’ve been testing out some good (cheaper) options over the past month or so and I am in LOVE with REVLON ColorBurst Matte Balm. For one, the color is velvet-like and two, it’s retractable, which means no sharpener required! The Clinique version doesn’t require sharpening either but, for some reason, the REVLON version just seems to last me longer! Plus, I love the fact that it’s also infused with combination of shea, mango and coconut butter, making it the perfect product for dry lips (like mine).

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Splurge versus Save: Photo Finish

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products (and their high-end equivalents!). This week, we’re chatting primers (!). Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

Up until a few years ago I thought primers were totally useless, but then I tried a few different versions (HERE) and realized that they’re actually pretty awesome; one, they make it so that you don’t have to use as much foundation and two, they make your foundation last longer. So what’s the gold standard? Ask any beauty girl and they’ll tell you that they love Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer since it’s a silky blend of antioxidants and vitamins that instantly smooths and perfects skin…but at $36 I’m a little hesitant to buy it regularly. I recently tried out Sephora’s version, Sephora Collection Perfecting Ultra-Smoothing Primer and I absolutely love it! For one, the packaging is super similar (I’m a sucker for good packaging) and two, the results are almost identical to Smashbox’s version.
