Lauren Conrad Teams Up with Mark to Empower Girls

On Tuesday night, I was invited along with other journalists and bloggers to learn about a new campaign from mark (the beauty and fashion boutique brand of Avon) called m.powerment, a philanthropic initiative dedicated to breaking the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence. There we learned the sobering statistic that 1 in 5 teens in a serious relationship reports being physically abused by a partner.

The event was held at the hotel Crosby in Soho and hosted by Lauren Conrad (The Hills), Claudia Poccia, Global Present of mark, and a Peer Educator Leader from the Healthy Relationship Training Academy of New York City. Guests got to see the new PSA for the campaign (watch the video above!) and participate in a Q&A with Lauren, who talked about raising awareness for this great cause.

Lauren Conrad Teams Up with Mark to Empower Girls

Lauren collaborated with mark to create the below beauty and accessory items from which 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to help raise funds and awareness for the cause:

mpowerment products
[1] mark Have a Heart Bracelet, $12 [2] mark Have a Heart Necklace, $22 [3] mark Glow Baby Glow Hook Up Lip Gloss in m.powerment Shades, $5.50

To date, $400,000 has been awarded to seven organizations through the m.powerment by mark campain. It's a fantastic cause and it's so easy to participate and do your part to help out. We each received a swag bag at the event with one of the bracelets, gloss and necklace and they are quality products you will want to wear and use and share with friends. Spread the word, ladies!

Random sidenote: Lauren mingled with guests after the event, which was sweet. I went right up to her and got my photo taken with her and she was seriously cool, down the earth, and very thin and pretty in person. Just thought I'd share cuz you know you want to know! LOL

So glad to see a "celebrity" using their fame for something worthwhile (versus being on the cover of a magazine for having 10 surgeries in one day!).
And I actually like the heart pendant.

How in he hell is LC a great role model? She was never hired for her talent, just for her looks.

I can't think of one reason LC would not be considered a role model! She's kept a pretty positive image since she came in the spot light, and she's a successful girl. If anything, she's showing girls that you can do whatever you want in life, and still have some class and a little style to go along. If there's something not resembling a role model about her, than what is it? I thinks she's great.

I agree with Living Fly. A lot of celebritites love being in the spotlight, but don't fully utilizie it. I love that she did for such a good cause.

I have no problem with LC, and I've been known to watch The Hills from time to time, when I used to have cable... But I do bristle a bit at reading she's "thin and pretty in person." Somehow that sentence makes it seem that the two are correlated, when of course they are not. I know you didn't mean anything by it, budget babe, but as I say it always strikes me when someone's physique is mentioned.

This is encouraging to see! I think it is wonderful of women working to help other women and girls. Maybe it's the feminist in me, but there is not enough empowerment, encouragement, etc between females. It's cruel remarks, vicious fighting and general dragging one another down. I applaud these celebrities for using their fame for a good cause such as this. Dating violence is very real and very horrifying.
