i think the whole "pink" trend is becoming overused as well. I mean, it's great that when you buy something you are also contributing a fraction of the price (in most cases) to research of breast cancr. But like you said, i am beginning to think that the companies are actually only donating a small amount to the actual foundation and using the whole "pink thing" as a marketing technique to make the brand appear charitable. I bought a long sleeved shirt from Juicy Couture for $35 that donates 100% of the profits to breast cancer research. Quite a steal from somewhere like Juicy!
I think you're definitely on to something: first, Juicy is donating 100% of the profits for the item you mentioned; and secondly, they're not charging a whole lot to begin with, which makes it an accessible purchase for those hoping to give to the cause. Well done!!
I totally agree with you about the overuse- I was at target last week, and they had a pink ipod nano plus something else (i forget) in a "breast cancer" package, I actually read the box and it said that like 2% of the proceeds or something actually went to the cause! I was shocked! I'm definitely more careful now about reading the fine print.
