Land's End Canvas Fall/Winter 2010 Preview

Land's End Canvas Fall/Winter 2010 Preview

A few weeks ago I was invited to the Land's End Canvas Fall/Winter 2010 Collection Preview in New York City. Land's End Canvas, which just recently launched with their first collection in the spring, aims to attract a younger, cooler customer who still looks for quality and value—the hallmarks of the Land's End brand. The styles are American classics with a twist—think dark-wash pencil jeans, boyfriend cardigans and ruffle details on button front shirts. It's kinda like J. Crew meets L.L. Bean on a budget (everything's priced under $200, and that's for their signature trench coat. Most items are much less).
The Fall collection is a mix of vintage work wear and feminine pieces, in a palette of indigo blues, accents of red and pink, grounded in khaki and denim. There are also preppy influences like argyle, stripes, tempered by more utilitarian fabrics and relaxed cuts. Layered throughout the collection are essential knits and sweaters, plus accessories like leather boots, belts, wool scarves, suede hobos and canvas totes.

I think Canvas is a really cool development for people like myself who have lost touch with Land's End because it's not exactly "fashion-forward" and the fit isn't always contemporary, but who still have a practical side that loves a classic trench or a winter coat that's both warm and good-looking. I also scouted out the Land's End collection (which was conservative yet stylish, nothing unexpected) so I think some of those photos got mixed in, but mostly they are Land's End Canvas.

Does Land's End Canvas appeal to you? Check out http://canvas.landsend.com and let me know what you think in the comments, the Land's End Canvas folks are listening too!

It's nice that they're trying, but the pieces are still note ideal for a younger demographic.

I really love the Canvas line. I got two swimsuits from them for the summer and I really love how well made they are. I think I like more of the pieces they have now than the fall, but there are definitely some must-haves in here.

Ooooh some cute pieces! Lucky you! Did you snag some for yourself?

Looks very wearable. I really like some of the shirtdresses. Will this line be available through Sears?

I redact my previous comment now that I see they only have through size 14. For shame!

Also not loving it, it's basically last year's spring trends (breton stripes, denim shirtdresses, crossover bags, ruffles, etc.) in heavier fabrics. I don't expect Lands End to be super imaginative, but someone needs to point out the "twists" on these classics because I'm not seeing it.

I tried to get hold of the LE Canvas folks when this line first came out, but came up a dead end.

I LOVE these pieces, perhaps even more than the first group. Classic items that I'd wear forever. Especially digging the dresses. That floral shirtdress is calling my name.

I LOVE J crew and I would really like to check out Land's End Canvas collection in person. Unfortunately for me, there are no stores in my area. The line is exclusively carried at Sears, however only some have it available.

I love the quality of Lands End. For me they seem to last longer than other brands of clothing.

I hadn't heard of Canvas/Lands End. I'm so glad I saw your post about them. I love their clothes. I would definitely buy from them. I hope they have great reception because I want them to be around for a long time. I love the J. Crew look and this fits the bill for sure. It's great to have another option other there other than Gap (at this price point). Thanks again for the post.

I purchased a few pieces from Canvas when they debuted at a Sears store near me. I love, love the Boyfriend V-neck - the quality is great, the styling is subtle and its comfy too! I also picked up the anchor necklace which I constantly get complimented on. I'm looking forward to picking up some classic pieces for fall. Land's End is great with good quality, classic key pieces and I think Canvas takes it the next level stylistically. I love preppy so I'm probably a little biased...

I like this new collection, I usually think of Land's End as boxy type clothing for older women, but I LOVE the shoes in the 9th and 10th pictures, especially the boots. I want a pair!

too bad this line didn't come out about 15 years ago. when i was in middle and high school my mom always (and pretty much only) wanted to order me clothes from the land's end catalog, but they were so frumpy so i refused. some of these i'd actually wear! alas, now i don't have the money to order from land's end.

I love the new lands end canvas line, it's a bit of trial and error at the beginning to get the sizing right but their stuff is great, particularly for basics that you can pay a small fortune for at jcrew. I can see several items already that I'd love to pick up for the fall. Will my entire fall wardrobe be from there? No, but overall I've been very pleased with their spring/summer line.

If you sign up for both the lands ends and canvas emails, you'll get 20-30% off coupons off your order all the time (along with free shipping). Returns are free to any local sears store regardless of whether or not they carry lands end items there. Also, their items are unconditionally guranteed forever, so at any point if you have a problem with the item, they are more than happy to work with you to resolve the issue. And, their customer service is some of the best in the business.

Nice florals and knits, looks pretty good to me...
they definitely had an old-lady image

Looks similiar to Martin and Osa's clothing as well. Too bad all their stores are closing at the end of the summer.

Pieces look okay individually, but the outfits they have are ridiculous! Plus, most are basic stuff that I think could be found for cheaper. Those suede nude pumps are gorgeous though, will def. have to look into those

I have to say I like what I see. I have been a loyal j.crew customer since my teens and they are losing me lately with their inflated prices, poor quality and move towards trendy pieces. I prefer classic understated styles and want something that will last for more than one season. I have chinos that I bought from j.crew 10 years ago that fit well and still look nice. I hope that the Canvas line will fill the void that has been left by j.crew and Gap in recent years.

I've never heard of Canvas, so I'm happy about this post too - I'm definitely checking it out. I'm going to their website now. I really like alot of these pieces - although if they are going for a young demographic, appealing to a 34 yr old might not be a good sign, lol.

Danielle, when Canvas says younger demographic they are really aiming at 20's and 30's! So you are right on :-)
