I had eye surgery at the age of 2; it was so traumatic that it's my first memory. I had to wear glasses from that time onward. Giant, gaudy, awkward looking things (I had the surgery in 1986). Oh, and did I mention I am blind in one eye? To me, they are entirely too irreverent towards an unfortunate condition. I get it, 'it's fashion!' 'I just, like, want to look smart and stuff today!' You know why kids with glasses end up being intellectuals? Our vision was too poor to participate in sports and kids ostracized us for deviating from a typical appearance. In response, we turned to our books and our video games.
Maybe tomorrow I'll wander around with a back brace, because, like, they totally make your back look hipster!
