Ask BB: Cute Cheap Outfits for A Summer Trip to Puerto Rico

Reader ttsmith posted this question in the forums: "I am leaving for Puerto Rico in the next month for a girl's trip. We are staying in one of the nicest resorts there. I have a few outfits together, but would love some other ideas." —ttsmith

Puerto Rico is going to be really hot in August, so think light tees, tanks, skirts, and sandals. In addition to packing a few bathing suits, here are 3 affordable outfits that'll take you sightseeing, dining and clubbing in style!
LOOK 1: TANK + DENIM PENCIL SKIRT + LEATHER FLIP FLOPS
A dark wash knee length denim pencil skirt is a cool alternative to jeans; wear it with just about anything for a day of shopping and sightseeing.

LOOK 2: SLOUCHY TEE + DENIM CUT OFFS + EMBELLISHED THONGS
A shade-making floppy hat, cross-body bag and jeweled sandals lend style to a basic t-shirt and jeans combo. Comfy, casual yet cute enough for the poolside bar.

LOOK 3: RUFFLE FRONT DRESS + GLADIATOR HEELS
A ruffle front dress in a pretty blue hue is subtly sexy (especially with a gorgeous tan). Add strappy heels and you'll be ready to hit the clubs.

Great outfits BB! I went o Puerto Rico last Christmas and it was insanely hot!
Here is my flickr set of a few outfits I wore there: http://www.flickr.com/photos/45245403@N07/sets/72157623045072149/

I would recommend that if ttsmith is going to be in the capital San Juan, make note that the beautiful blue cobblestone can be difficult to walk on in heels!

So jealous! OMG have a blast!

I'm also from PR. I must say Puertorricans love to shop and take great pride in their clothes and outfits. Girls dress up to go out clubbing and most clubs have a dress code. (You'll fit in perfectly in outfit #3.) It is insanely hot! During the day, the less clothes the better. Just be respectful and do not enter restaurants and other businesses wearing only your bikini.

Finally, don't forget the sunscreen (wear it, you WILL tan any way) and the mosquito repellent.

Ps. BB you hit it right on the money!

us Puerto Rican girls love to dress up...for everything!
All the outfits BB suggested are perfect!
It is really hot and the hummidity is insane! So aside from sunscreen, make sure to bring some good hair products...your hair will thank you!

I am from PR. I was home 3 weeks ago and had a blast. I recommend sundresses, cute skirts, fancy shorts, and flowy tops. PRicans love to look great. Consider going on a catamaran trip off the Fajardo coast.
