Fall Fashion: Uber Warm Coat

Having lived through countless icy-cold Chicago winters, we're big fans of wearing warm, snuggly coats when the weather calls for it (which easily feels like 9 months out of the year in parts of the Midwest). The question is: Can you stave off the cold and still maintain some semblance of style?

With unflinching optimism, we say YES, and offer this Goose Down Chalet Coat from Lands' End as an example. Sure, it looks like a sleeping bag in the product shot on the left, but the same coat shines when worn by the model on the right thanks to some creative, colorful styling.

As long as you pair a high-volume puffy coat with slim-silhouette bottoms and sizzling boots, we think it's a smashing way to be fashionably frost-proof throughout winter.

What do you think? Love it or leave it?

i love it and i love the color. lately land's end has had some ugly colors (especially their sears collections) so it's nice to see something pretty for a change.
it looks cozy and comfy.

I agree, I like it. After spending too many days freezing my butt off trying to look cute I went and bought myself a down coat. Its similar, shorter and black. To be honest I thought I'd feel like a marshmallow, but I really don't, and even if I did I'm so warm and happy I don't even care! Its easier to be stylish when you're teeth aren't chattering!

i actually saw this coat at sears, but in brown and black. it's quite thin for down, but on the upside it's lightweight. the outer fabric looks kind of flimsy, however. a better buy is the calvin klein down coat with fur-trimmed hood at lord and taylor. it's 320, but now it's reduced to 179.99 and if you have a 20% off coupon (if you run across a nice salesperson they'll give you the discount if you ask!), that's 143.99. if you open a L&T account, it's an additional 15% off, bringing it to 122.40! so for not a lot of money more, you get real fur trim, and a nicely made solid-looking coat.

Lord and Taylor, now that's a store we haven't mentioned on The Budget Babe yet! Look for an upcoming post...
