Saks Launches Flash Sale Site Today

In case you needed another excuse to shop online, Saks Fifth Avenue is launching a flash sale site, www.saksfashionfix.com. The inaugural sale starts today at 12 noon ET and will feature apparel by Elizabeth & James. Saks FashionFix offers merchandise from one designer for a limited time up to 70% off to its members (membership is free, you just need to register before you can shop). The green E&J military jacket pictured above, for example, is regularly $395 and you can scoop it up for today on sale for $158. This move on the part of Saks clearly speaks to the continued popularity of flash sale sites - and traditional retailers are scrambling to keep up with the likes of Gilt Groupe, or alluring "clubs" like JewelMint. Do you find these sorts of sales irresistible? A big waste of time? Both?

For those fashionistas who truely want to get a good deal, they know sites like this aren't a big waste of time...especially those who work and don't have a lot of extra time to scour physical sales racks. I have loved Gilt Groupe for the past couple of years - as well as HauteLook and Rue La La. I've gotten great deals! I really pay attention to their daily emails; and if I see brands that I love, then I take time to visit the site. If not, I won't even log in that day. :-)

I've only bought one thing from a flash sale site, and while it was a great deal and I was very satisfied with my purchase, I've found that more often than not, you can find the same items for the same price on other sites. I've also heard that some designers create merchandise specifically for these sites. That doesn't stop me from checking them out a couple of times a week though :-)
