Ask BB: J. Crew MacAlister Wedge Boot for Less

I recently discovered these J. Crew wedge booties and have fallen in love. Unfortunately, they are a little (okay, a lot) out of my price range and I was wondering if you had seen something similar elsewhere? —Aditi

J.Crew at ShopStyle

Great find, those look comfy and very "utilitarian chic." I tracked down a couple options that will help you get the look for less. First up, we have Kelsi Dagger's "Fanetta" desert booties ($100, shopbop.com)…

If you want a bit more height, you could go with Lands' End Canvas' "Paxton" wedge booties ($98, landsendcanvas.com). Available in 5 colors.

Need an option under $50? Try these boots from Sonoma life + style, $47.99 (down from $64.99) at Kohls.com.

UPDATE: Reader Sarah shared this amazing find in the comments. These desert wedge booties are just $36.94 at oldnavy.com and come in gray, green or camel.

Hope you find the desert wedge boots of your dreams for fall! xoBB

I also found these recently...not quite the right color and far more awkward looking (imo) where the body meets the heel, but also the cheapest:

I was thumbing through a Delia's catalogue and found these great Rampage "Adair" ones, they look similar to the Old Navy ones but with a better body-to-heel seam.

I love these booties but I have NO idea what I would wear them with! :-) I'm not a skinny jeans person. Any other ideas?

I love this look, too! What kind of socks would you wear with these shoes??

I think Target will be carrying a similar style for fall - it was in one of their commercials.

I was super excited about the Target pair, but I found out they're not exactly practical. They're 4.5 inches high with no platform, I just can't walk in those.
I've been looking for an alternative (I really dig the cuff on the Target/Bamboo versions). Having a tough time though since most of these seem to be without a platform I can't do higher than 3".
I'll probably end up with the LEC ones. They'll be great quality and I can return them with no hassle if I find a better pair or decide I don't like them.
I really like the tread on the Kelsi and Sonoma versions though, very casually urban chic.

I wanted to post these too: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?searchCID=4016&cid=4016&vid=1&pid=892561&scid=892561012
They're a real suede version of the ones Target will have. Again, they're very high with no platform, but I know some of you ladies take no issue with that.
