Luxe vs. Less: Phillip Lim Yellow Tank

Phillip Lim is clearly the reigning fashion muse to copycats these days, and, as illustrated by the two tops above, the imitators have absolutely no shame whatsoever. On the left, 3.1 Phillip Lim's yellow and black tank top with a petite bow, which retails for £240.00 at the UK shop Browns. On the right, Forever 21's rendition of the look for $22.80. Too close for comfort, if you ask me (although my biggest qualm with this shirt isn't that it's a blatant knockoff - it's that it's too juvenile. I love fashion that hints of youth and naivete, but this top isn't doing it for me). But what do you think? Do you like the look? Has Forever 21 crossed the line on this one, or not?

I love F21, but I think making pretty much exact copies of designer items is crossing the line. I mean, they could have at least made a few changes to it--like perhaps doing something to make it cuter than the original. I don't really like either of them.

You know, I was looking at their website the other day and saw this shirt and thought, "This has to be a rip off of someone's design..." though I thought it might have been a "inspired by" Gucci top I'd seen, but looks like it's almost a one-to-one knock-off. I have to say, I like Forever21, but this is just a little too blatant, especially in light of all the lawsuits they're potentially facing for just this kind of thing.

To be completely honest I wouldn't mind that its a knock off if it just wasn't so horrid looking! I honestly can't imagine somewhere wearing that and not looking like a fool... And I guess it really is just too blatant, they could have at least made it in a different color.

I'm all for budget shopping, but F21 is disgusting. Cheap and polyestery! Save your cash for quality pieces.

Ouch, that's harsh! We must politely disagree - Forever 21 can't be beat for trendy fashions and accessories. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me, "Where'd you get that?!" only to be shocked when I reply, "Forever 21." If you look carefully, you can find amazing things there.
