Last night's Emmys red carpet did not disappoint with its mix of timeless and totally unexpected gowns. Here are some of my personal favorites (in no particular order). Who made your best-dressed list?

Julie Bowen in Monique Lhuillier
Yellow was a big trend on the red carpet last night, and no one nailed it quite like Julie Bowen. I love this particular shade of chartreuse as well as the simple neckline and origami pleating in the skirt. Can't. Look. Away.

Emilia Clarke in Chanel
Leave it to a young up-and-comer to take on a unique silhouette like this and make it her own. The slit in the skirt feels unexpected as does the white and dark purple color palette.

Sarah Hyland in Marchesa
While this look didn't wow me, I always appreciate a flattering gown that feels young and uncomplicated. The hair is romantic and the makeup is flawless.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier
It was a huge night for Monique Lhuillier thanks in large part to this intricate showstopper. It's unique, it's chic and the styling is just right.

Padma Lakshmi in Monique Lhuillier
Cleavage was another huge trend last night, but some starlets went overboard with low cut dresses that just weren't flattering. Not so with Padma Lakshmi, whose glorious orange gown felt like an extension of her own beauty and didn't overpower her.

Hayden Panettiere in Marchesa
I was on the fence about this Bollywood-inspired number at first, but Hayden's irresistible smile and confidence won me over and made me love the dress. I'm not sure it would have been as successful on someone else.

Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano
We've seen this silhouette on Christina before, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Emily VanCamp in J. Mendel
J. Mendel also had a hugely successful night with gowns like this gray chiffon number. I love the contrast of soft and hard, sheer and opaque. Emily pulls it off effortlessly.

Kate Mara in Badgley Mischka
This silver number had just the right amount of sparkle. Badgley Michska can sometimes design with a heavy hand so I was pleased to see how well Kate looked in this dress.

Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta
Emerald green is trending for fall, and Allison Williams embraced the color last night in a way that felt new thanks to the unique neckline on her ODLR gown. Props for the peplum, too.

January Jones in Zac Posen
Another designer who was no doubt celebrating last night alongside the Emmy winners was Zac Posen, whose highs included this anything-but-ordinary black gown. Something's "off" which makes her look intriguing, even mysterious.

Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen
A statuesque Kelly Osbourne sizzles in this asymmetrical gown by Zac Posen. The purple hair is fun without feeling over-the-top.

Tina Fey in Vivienne Westwood
For an amazing actress who sometimes picks very un-amazing dresses, Tina Fey made the right choice with last night's burgundy corseted Vivienne Westwood that looks perfect for fall (hello,
oxblood) despite being from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Jessica Pare in Jason Wu
Jessica Pare channels Old Hollywood glamour in this refined white gown by Jason Wu. A bright red lip keeps things from becoming boring.

Leslie Mann in Naeem Khan
The beading on this Naeem Khan gown really stands out as does the color of the skirt and the supercool pockets. I'm sure people have mixed feelings about the jewelry. I like the color but not the style, which feels too casual (though I'm sure it was really, really expensive!).

Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli
The opulent fabric and art-inspired print on Julianna Margulies' Giambattista Valli Couture down feel regal and fashion-forward. You'll probably either love it or hate it, and I'm in the former camp.
