Today, Target launched the first-ever uninterrupted, shoppable short-film, "Falling for You," which I told you guys about
last week. Episode one of three is now live on
Target.com/FallingforYou starring Hollywood favorites Kristen Bell, Zachary Abel and Nia Long.
So what
is a shoppable short film, anyways? Here's how it works: As you watch the romantic comedy unfold, featured Target products appear to the right side of your video player. Click the heart-shaped icon next to each item to save your favorites, then shop those items below the player when the film is over (it's about 3 minutes long). If that's too complicated, you can also just browse all the items shown in the video, which is what I did (didn't want to miss anything!)
Items include fashion, beauty and home products, from the shabby chic
vanity table shown in the bedroom of Amanda (played by Kristen Bell) to a dapper
plaid tie worn by her office rival Joe (played by Zachary Abel).
The film is cute and I like the concept but didn't feel compelled to buy anything I saw just because it was in the film. Part of what motivates someone to want something they see on a TV show or in a movie is the character - for instance, you might want Carrie Bradshaw's shoes because
it's Carrie Bradshaw, a fashion icon, or you might covet Charlotte's bedspread because it's Charlotte and she represents impeccable Upper East Side taste in decorating (or something).
But who knows, by episode two of 'Falling for You' (which airs Thursday, Oct. 4) I might feel more invested in the characters and therefore more willing to shop.
