Off the Rack: Prabal Gurung for Target

Yesterday I finally made it to Target to check out the Prabal Gurung collection and there was still plenty of merchandise left for me to choose from. Nothing quite fit my baby bump, so I bought the dress I had been eying (short-sleeve dress in First Date print, $39.99) in a size that I hope will fit after the baby comes. Love this dress and it'll be perfect for spring! I can't accurately speak to sizing for obvious reasons but quality-wise, I think this was a very solid collection. The red full-skirted dress is amazing (material reminds me of grosgain ribbon) as was the sleeveless dress in Meet the Parents print. As much as I loved the shoes, I didn't love how they looked on my feet so I passed. Overall, I thought this collection was well-made, visually exciting and priced right.

I've heard from some of you already, and I'm curious to hear what everyone thought of the line? Did you like what you ordered online or bought in store? Which pieces stood out?

Where's the blazer for the original collection release? My Target didn't have it :-(

@Lauren - Neither did mine, but I wasn't keen on paying $50 anyways. Did you try using the "find in store" tool on target.com? It's pretty accurate:

Good luck!

I also got and kept the drop-waist dress in First Date print; it really looks cute on you as a maternity dress!

I bought a skirt, two tops, and two pairs of shoes. Overall I loved the collection. I loved the dresses but they didn't fit me right, I couldn't move my arms forward in them at all, even when I went a size larger.

I had the same problem with the dresses, which was disappointing because I was otherwise crazy about the short-sleeve black dress with the First Date print inset. I ended up buying the (sort of itchy) First Date print tank just to get something with that pattern. I'm hoping it'll be less itchy with another tank layered underneath.

I bought the black lace up sandals and I LOVE them! I haven't worn them out yet, but they seem much more comfortable than they look! I am obsessed with the bright colored ankle-strap heels, but my Target didn't have them at all and by the time I got to a couple other stores, I only found one pair (the neon yellow) in my size. I was so pumped, but when I tried them on, one ankle strap fit and one was huge! For the life of me, I could not get it to fit. So bummed! The red ankle-straps are my favorite, but they sold out right away. Any idea if Target will restock? A sales associate told me they would, but I'm not sure I believe it!

I woke up early the morning of release, though not crazy early, so some things were already sold out or close to selling out. I bought the red/black dress - I love it - the neon heels, red low wedges and a pair of crystal earrings. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I'm keeping everything. I think I've decided to keep the dress. It's well made, the fabric feels expensive and it has pockets! I have issues with the neon heels. The ankle strap opens up when I walk, so I'm still unsure about those. The red wedges are nice, but I'm not sure I need them. And the crystal earrings are more than likely going back... but again, not sure yet. I'm really indecisive about a lot of pieces, but this is by far, my favorite Target colab collection as of late. The prices were right, which I think is the most important aspect with these collections. I'm sure Target learned it's lesson with the Neiman Marcus line.

I ended up taking my boyfriend's advice and ordering everything I wanted to try on. I have an odd shape so I'm never quite sure what will fit or be flattering. I ended up deciding to keep the color block skirt, yellow sweater (which is really yellow and not the neon greenish yellow everything else is), the peplum top, and the nolita lace up shoes. I love the ankle strap pumps, but they ran 1/2 a size big and were sold out by the time I realized it. I resorted to ebay for those, since all of the colors that work for my coloring (any but neon yellowish green) were online only. I dream of finding a return in my size. I returned everything to a store and they marked all the online only items (at least the shoes) with clearance prices. The black and white ankle strap sandals were marked down to $7 and the red ankle strap heels were marked down to $10. Crazy! I'm glad you found something you liked.

Whoa. Which Target just marks down online returns? That's crazy. Not the Brooklyn one, I'll tell you that. Worst Target on the planet.

I went the morning the line came out as soon as Target opened. My Target hardly had anything. I went to another Target - same problem. Online many of the items weren't available, including the jackets. It was very disappointing after all the hype.

The Target in Brooklyn didn't have a ton of stuff left when I went this past weekend. Most of the clothes that were left were in M, L and XL. I tried on the short sleeve dress in i think the first date print, but the bodice didn't fit me right in a 4 and they didn't have a 6. They only had a handful of shoes left and a couple of the clutches. Sadness.

But agreed with the general level of quality of the collection.

I got the black and white skirt, the lace up black heels, the black clutch, the wedges in black and white and the red colour and the red ruffly dress. Love everything except the red dress, just not flattering on me.

I second the reports on the ankle strap heels being problematic - the shoes are cool, seem well made, half size too big but could get over that.....but the buckle is crap. It's not the one Target has pictured on the website, it's more like the closure on the wedges. It works fine on the wedges, but on the ankle strap heels it just doesn't stay closed when you walk. VERY disappointed, it was the piece I was looking forward to the most!

I went to Target the Sunday that the line came out. Everything looked completely different in person! I saw the promo videos online at least ten times. things i had zero interest in from photos were very appealing in person, and things I thought I would love didn't do it for me. I ended up getting the long sleeved Nolita print shirt, which I had thought was atrocious. In front of me it was luxe, very colorful and perfect for spring while being comfy and soft. I also got the sleeveless shirt in first date print, but it's sooo itchy I may have to bring it back. They did not have the shoes I wanted- the ankle strap pump, but I am reluctant to purchase them without seeing them in person since my opinions on the line changed so much once it was in front of me. The dresses and peplum shirts were very cute, but a little too officey for me personally. I loved the sweaters too, also perfect for spring. I was happy with my purchases, and maybe I will bring the sleeveless top in and exchange it for a sweater. I regretted not purchasing some things when the Rodarte for Target line debuted and totally got what I wanted this time.

How is it possible for you to look so adorable in everything you tried on?

I didn't check out the line on opening day, but when I went 2 days later there were still a lot of sizes left in just about everything. My picks were the lace up sandals in black and black and white floral print.I tried on both and though I liked the look of the black lace up sandals, I felt the material seemed cheap and wished the laces were not made of plastic. So I went with the other lace up sandal with the black and white print. Loved them! I'm totally surprised not more people chose this shoe to purchase. They look super cute with black tights which is how I wore them to work this week or with bare feet when the summer time comes. Choose this shoe! You will not be dissapointed!

I went opening day and was a little disappointed that not all the items were in the store and my store had no jewelry! I wanted to try on items to get the fit right, but now I wish I would've ordered some things online first thing in the morning, namely the dress in Floral Crush print. However, I was extremely impressed with everything my store had. I bought the dress and skirt in Meet the Parents and the sleeveless tee in First Date. My mom went to her Target later in the day and got me the skirt in Nolita and herself the drop waist dress in First Date. I'm super happy with all my purchases! I'm wearing my Meet the Parents dress to my first bridal shower this weekend and my mom is wearing the drop waist dress.
