60 Second Beauty: Lavanila Natural Deodorant Review

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant Review

I've been on a very long quest to find the perfect all-natural deodorant - even more so now that's I'm expecting - and Lavanila was high on my list of brands to try. Recently I got a complimentary sample of Lavanila's The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Lavender to put to the test, and here's how it went...

What they say: Lavanila's Healthy Deodorant is all-natural, aluminum-free! It delivers superior odor protection and vitamin-rich nourishment without the use of commonly feared harsh chemicals.

What I thought: Lavanila totally works - for regular, everyday use. A typical day for me includes brisk walks with my dog, running errands, and lots of sitting in front of a computer. Basically your average workday. At the end of the day, I do a smell check (LOL), then subject my husband to the highly scientific "smell check" - and ladies, I passed! Lavanila helped keep me "presentable" for all intensive purposes.

However, if I have a really important meeting or something (like when I did my satellite media tour and could not be seen sweating buckets on national TV), I will probably resort to using my chemical deodorants. But for me, those moments are few and far between. I'd much rather wear a natural deodorant that works "good enough" than slather on toxic chemicals - because if you think chemical antiperspirants and deodorants are good for you, they're not.

Lavanila might not stand up to an intense workout either, but if you're going to the gym and showering afterwards, I think you'd be totally fine.

What's more, Lavanila's packaging is chic, the botanical fragrance blend is beautiful and it feels great on your skin. It will get on clothing though so be careful with delicates and dark colors.

Lavanila has no harsh chemicals, no petrochemicals, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oils, silicone, synthetic dyes, sulfates or parabens. It's also not tested on animals and it is made in the USA.

Priced at $18.00 (for 2 oz) or $10.00 (for .90 oz Mini Deodorant), Lavanila is a relatively small price to pay for a safer deodorant that works well and smells great.

Any insight on how "smear-free" or clear it is? I usually don't have to concern myself with it (don't wear many black sleeveless items), but I HATE when I go try on clothes in stores, and accidentally leave a deoderant mark :-( I feel like a schlep when it happens..

Sorry ladies after me.. maybe I helped you score a discount though? :-D

It will leave a little teensy bit of residue on clothes and appear white on black garments (just speaking for the variety I tried) so be careful with delicates, etc. Not a huge deal though, my Dove deodorant gets on clothes too. I don't use clear.

I'll have to try this. My current natural deodorant (Miessence) is failing me come exercise time.

Also, it's "for all intents and purposes", not "for all intensive purposes".

I had no idea, thanks! Although...I don't like the sound of it so I may have to strike that phrase from my vocabulary altogether (or is it all together?)

What a great review BB! I have also been looking for a really good natural deodorant. I will have to try out some of this Lavinila :-)

I've never tried La Vanila, but I really like Tom's of Maine's Long Lasting deodorant. It's aluminum free. It goes on clear. It really does last all day. And it's only about $4.

Also... Ditto on the second part of Kate's comment.

I've been using mineral spray deodorant for several years now and it has been the best stuff. One bottle lasts forever and it is unscented. Yet even after walking 3 1/2 miles still no odor.

I make my own natural deodorant by mixing some baking soda with coconut oil and a few drops of whatever essential oil I have on hand. There are recipes all over the internet.

I live in South Florida and never stink, even on the most sweltering of days. Cheap and best of all I'm using ingredients I normally keep stocked anyway.

I'm totally going to try this, thanks for the tip!

I actually use this everyday and love it. I put the Tom's crystal deodorant on at night after my shower and this one on in the morning over it. It really works when I do it this way. Also, if you apply more right before a workout it will work longer. I like this better than any other natural deodorant I have tried :-)

Hmmm, I almost bought Lavanila because I heard good things. Ultimately, I chose Lavilin though (www.lavilin.com) since it was highly recommended to me by a few different people.
