Best Moments of 2013: The Birth of My Son

I don't usually get personal on my blog but as the year draws to a close and I reflect on the moments that made 2013 such a special year (a few of which are featured in the Statigram above), I feel compelled to share a few things with you guys that I haven't had time or presence of mind to share sooner.

As you may know, my baby boy was born back in June. I never formally announced my son's birth here on the blog nor did I share details of his birth but I really wish I had because we're like family here at The Budget Babe and because I'm a very proud mama! So here goes... (Better late than never, right?)
Nearly 2 weeks past my due date, I was told my amniotic fluid was low and that I'd have to be induced. Early in the process my water broke and I delivered my son without an epidural a few grueling hours later. Later that night I had a postpartum hemorrhage, which shook me up a bit, and then unrelated to that, my son had to go to the NICU for low blood sugar.

Long story short, we were in the hospital 5 days. We experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. But when all was said and done, we got to go home with our beautiful, healthy baby boy, filled with a mix of elation and anxiety as we recovered and began our completely new lives as parents.

Now 6 months later, those scary first few days in the hospital seem so far away. The first couple weeks were a blur and beyond challenging, as any new parent knows, but so worth it. My little guy is absolutely amazing and wows me each day with his smile and curiosity and warm personality. I love watching him grow and I'm proud of the milestones we've reached.

Which brings me back to the topic of this post: The highlights of 2013 aren't exactly fashion related, they're family related. My priorities have happily shifted but I'm even more dedicated to making The Budget Babe a success because I have my son to think about now, and because, cliche as it may sound, I want him to see that if you work hard and dream big, you can achieve your goals.

I'm looking forward to all the fun and excitement that motherhood and blogging will bring in 2014 and I thank you all for being here with me each day. (And I'm also looking forward to getting my fashion game back on as well as outfitting my little guy in some stylish kid clothes now that I'm not so frazzled!)

Thank you for reading this far, I feel like I know many of you personally after all these years! Please know you mean the world to me and I'm always so appreciative of every comment and kind word, whether it's here or on Instagram or what not. :-)

Wishing each of you a fabulous & blessed New Year. Love always, Dianna aka The Budget Babe

UPDATE: Oh! And his name is Edward Sebastien Fisher - named "Edward" after his father and great grandfather. He goes by his middle name, Sebastien (French spelling since my father is from France). ♦

I went thru postpartum hemorrhage with my oldest son. I needed blood transfusion and then the anesthesiologist infiltrated IV so I was in ICU for ten days. My son, thank God was born healthy. I saw him after three days. I held him after a month. The memories bring back tears but man! Do they bring thousands of good smiles and laughs.

I'm so happy that this has been such an incredible.for u and your family. He is absolutely adorable. Here's wishing you and your family well wishes and blessings for the next year.

WOW - I had no idea all that you went through with your labor/birth! I had a similar scare with my firstborn and had to have an emergency c-section. We were also in the hospital 5 days! Thanks Kimberly, and thank you for sharing - I had no idea either! Hearing from other moms and sharing our birthing stories in those early weeks was so critical to my well being and recovery, it's amazing what moms go through just to bring life into this world and then the job doesn't end there, of course, it's 24/7 love and attention! Thank you for being such a great friend and support. Cheers to a fab 2014!! xoxo

Dianna, congratulations to you on the birth of such an adorable son! I'm so sorry to hear that you had the hurdles of health scares to get over, but so happy that you and Sebastien pulled through and are doing so well now! I am currently 5 months pregnant and very scared to become a first time mom, but reading about all the joy you are experiencing is very inspiring! Happy New Year to you and your family :-)

I should have put a disclaimer at the top - Do not read if you are an expectant mom! LOL! I can honestly say don't worry, don't be scared, everything will be okay! You will find inner strength you didn't know you had. The birth of my son was the hardest thing I've ever done BUT it was also my greatest triumph. And it brought me and my husband even closer together. We love raising our little boy and after bringing him into the world, everything else in peanuts! You'll do great!! Congratulations. Keep me posted! xo
