Welcome to Fashion Capsule! In this weekly segment, I'll show you how to style three items for an entire week’s worth of outfits. I'm a firm believer that the key factor in any stylish, but budgeted, wardrobe is recycling. It all begins with picking versatile items that can be worked into your existing wardrobe. This week, we'll be working with Lucluc's color block blue dress, Jessica Simpson’s espadrille wedges, and an H&M straw hat.
The Pieces:
LUCLUC Dress $27
With it's universally flattering colorblocking, this dress was love at first sight for me! The black short-sleeves on top of the dress are are slimming, while the denim-colored bottom of the dress just says "summer." Dress this silhouette up or down.
Jessica Simpson Espadrille Wedges $31
Not only are these shoes the perfect summer shoe, they're also super versatile. Wedges give your legs length, but are much more practical for walking than regular stiletto heels. They are also really great for walking outdoors in the grass, which stilettos can’t do. I love the cognac color as well. I can never have enough cognac shoes.
H&M Straw Hat $12
Hats are a great way to add a little “cool factor” to your outfit. Hat styling, however, can be a little tricky. You have to plan when you wear your hat carefully. If you wear the hat during a hot day when you inevitably will need to take it off, you need to be weary of how your hair looks underneath it. I love this hat because it is different than most. The crisp white color is unique from the normal yellow-straw hats that always come alive during the summer months. I think the contrast of the white and the black band are really bold and will definitely pop amongst the crowds.
Let's get started!
Monday
Zara Ankle-Strap Flats, $50 // Tick Tock Hooray Gold Watch, $22 // Avber Women’s Western Style Pure Color Handbag Shoulder Bag, $35
I love this outfit a lot. I think the minimalism in accessories and color are complemented by interested shapes. These shoes are super cute and edgy. I love them especially because they’re also flats, which means they won’t be as uncomfortable for running around on a busy Monday. This bag is perfect for storing large files or your laptop. I always look for bags that are able to carry all my materials and papers for work. The watch is also very practical for work. It’s the nice size combination between a larger men’s-style watch and a smaller woman’s-style watch. This medium size is really in style right now.
Tuesday
H&M Jersey Crop Top, $6.28 // Chicwish Blue Floral Sketch Pleated Midi Skirt, $48 // NATASHA Mint & Gold-tone Stretch Bracelet, $20
The mixing of two blues tones is a really fresh color scheme for spring. This outfit also is two-fold for complementing your body as well. The A-line pleated skirt is great for giving you the illusion of an hourglass figure with a tiny waist. The skirt flows away from any problem areas that you may have around your hips and thighs. The crop top will hit right where the skirt starts, giving a hint of the trendy midriff without being too crass or obscene. Also, the neckline of the top is great for making your arms and shoulders look more athletic. Other than these bodily benefits, the outfit is also really stylish and cute. With a sweater or a blazer, the outfit can be very appropriate for work. Remove that sweater, and this outfit would be perfect for a sweet dinner date.
Wednesday
Beige Long Sleeve Casual Loose Pockets Coat, $20 // TOPSHOP SPRINGS Slip-on Pointed Shoes, $40 // Midnight Blue Bridieearrng Womens Earrings, $6.21
Wednesdays are hard. I always think that they are the hardest because you are only half way through the week and you’re exhausted. A great way to get through Wednesday, however, is to have a cute, professional outfit to motivate you. This loose coat is great because it is loose-fitted, but the ruffles add some dimension and shape. It is paired nicely with the color-blocking of the dress. The shoes are comfortable and will lengthen your legs without hurting your feet. Pull your hair up in a ponytail with loose curls to show off the fun and bright earrings. You will feel like you can take on the world in this outfit.
Thursday
MANGO Texture Cropped Blouse, $40 // Zara Printed Bermuda Shorts With Pleats, $50 // Statement Double Crescent Necklace, $7.87
For this look, I was inspired by a summer concert series that's held in our local park every Thursday night. With a blanket to protect your white shorts from grass stains, you'll be golden. The top is airy, minimalistic, but still stylish. A cool necklace adds just the right amount of dimension and “pop” to the dark top.
I love Casual Fridays. This outfit is still conservative and stylish, without compromising style and edge. You definitely can show off your edgy side at work. Backpacks are having a big moment, too, with a '90s vibe I'm loving. This all-black carry-all is grown-up and chic - who would have thought that “chic” would be used to describe a backpack?!
Saturday is the perfect day to wear all your pieces, all day. All the pieces complement each other so well - relax, your look is all figured out!
Sunday
Short Sleeve Flower Print Shift Dress, $13 // Dorothy Perkins Tan Perforated Shoulder Bag, $39
Here's a crisp and clean outfit for your Sunday morning, whether you plan on spending it in church or your favorite brunch spot. The shoes and bag just sing together, while the beautiful, water-painted flowers on the dress are echoed in the bag. Even during a hot spring or summer day, this dress will allow you to breathe and do all your Sunday errands without breaking a sweat. Go to the farmer’s market. Go to church. Go to brunch. This outfit can do it all!
How do you remix items in your wardrobe? Let me know what you think of this series, I'd love to hear your feedback!
