Capsule Wardrobe: Cotton Blouse, Fringe Miniskirt, Nude Crossbody

Capsule Wardobe
Welcome back to Fashion Capsule! Thank you again for giving me such amazing feedback. I love reading your comments! In this weekly segment, I will show you how to style three items under $50 for an entire week’s worth of outfits. We’ve got a fun group of outfits this week, from a folk-rock work look (oh, yes!) to a Parisian weekend ensemble. Let’s get started!

The Pieces:

John Lewis Cotton Blouse $29
A cotton blouse is perfect for summer. It can be layered without adding unnecessary warmth during the hot weather. This blouse is great for a capsule wardrobe because it can be easily transitioned into any season. This light blue color is also great because it goes with everything.

Genuine People Gia Fringe Mini Skirt $26
This fringe skirt is funky and so much fun to have in your wardrobe. I recently discovered Genuine People and they actually have a lot of pieces that are really interesting and beautiful. I would definitely check it out later if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to add unique items to your closet

MANGO Crossbody Bag $46
Bags that are both crossbody and clutches are great for a capsule wardrobe. That means that you need less bags to store. This neutral bag is great and can go with nearly every outfit.

Capsule Wardrobe Monday

When you’re able to start your week off with a little bit of sunshine, you know it’s going to be a good week. Finding the positives in life may not always be easy, but it will always be rewarding. With this quirky lemon clutch and tropical-printed skirt, you won’t be able to find anything but the positives. I think this look just radiates fun and enjoyment. When I was in high school, I had a teacher who said that he used to sleep with his textbook under his pillow so “osmosis” would kick in and he would know everything in the book. While that didn’t help him so much, a similar property could be applied here. By wearing fun and happy clothes to work, “osmosis” will kick in and make you fun and happy.

Tuesday Capsule Wardrobe

Since this isn’t exactly a vacation week, you can’t dress everyday like you did on Monday. This look is incredibly professional, but with a really stylish twist. The cutouts on the clutch are fun and unique. I personally think that dark red, or maroon, is like a neutral. I think it goes really well with the light and dark blue in this outfit.

Wednesday Capsule Wardrobe

I am in love with this outfit. I love the “cool girl” vibe of the brightly-colored vest over the pastel cotton blouse. The key when adding a bold element like this sleek vest, is to ensure that everything else in the outfit is neutral or very muted. Have you ever seen the video of J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons instructing the viewers on how to roll the perfect shirt cuff? If you haven’t, I would recommend watching it. The cotton shirt should be cuffed so the bracelets and watch can be seen. I would also recommend holding this bag like a clutch and not wearing it as a crossbody. The crossbody will distract from the bold vest and break it up in an unappealing way. Love this.

Thursday Capsule Wardrobe

So by now, I am sure you all know that I love a good folk rock outfit from time to time. These pointed croc shoes are definitely Bob Dylan, especially when paired with the fringe skirt and the collared cotton blouse.

Friday Capsule Wardrobe

I want this dress so badly. The blue cotton blouse could also be layered underneath this dress if the weather is a little chilly or if you feel uncomfortable baring your shoulders. What I think is really cool about these earrings is that they almost look like swans too. If you really squint at them, they have a grace and elegance about them. I think that this look would really look great with a French braid or a nice fishtail braid. Because of the sportiness of the dress, the braid really looks great with it. You could probably swap out the heels for some tennis shoes and then hit the tennis courts.

Saturday Capsule Wardrobe

Saturday
Nirvana Crop Top Shirt $13
Zulily Michael Antonio Black Kamper Bootie $21
Pac Sun Pattern Knit Panama Hat $33

I love this rock and roll look. The fringe skirt really lends itself to the rocking and rolling styling. Add some beachy waves and this look is good to go.

Sunday Capsule Wardrobe

I like the idea of layering this blouse underneath the dress. Unlike Friday’s outfit with the white swan dress, this dress doesn’t have a collar. Therefore, this layering works a little better. This dress is just beautiful though. I really like the waterpainted flowers. The elegance of this outfit would look really great with a French twist. The whole ensemble would then become incredibly Parisian.
