Poll: Michelle Obama vs. Cindy McCain Style


Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain, the wives of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, are coming under style scrutiny from mainstream media and fashion bloggers in a big way. Which begs the question...

It's almost an unfair question, isn't it? Mrs. Obama is 44 years old, while Mrs. McCain is almost 10 years older. Although this may not seem like a large difference in age, loyal Vogue readers know that the difference between a woman's style in her 40s and a woman's style in her 50s is quite distinct. Of course your readers, who, I assume, are primarily closer to in age and younger than Mrs. Obama willl choose her style. I'm by no means complaining ... It's just an observation; food for thought. :-)

I've given your idea some thought, but I don't think it's unfair to compare the styles of two women who are merely 10 years apart in age. If we can't compare their styles because of their age difference, that would be ageism, I think. (P.S. I'm not a loyal reader of Vogue, I'm a W girl.) Besides, they both share something even more important in common, and that is they both have a shot at becoming the next First Lady. No apples and oranges here.

Also, my readers come from all age groups. One of my highest trafficked posts is titled "Fashion Over 50," to give you some idea. If Cindy McCain got the majority of votes, would you automatically assume my readers were all over 50? I wouldn't.

So while this poll question may be a bit shallow, I do think it's perfectly fair. :-)

I think they both dress quite nicely. I agree with Katie that age can make a difference in the way one dresses. I'm voting for both.

People are voting based on whose husband they prefer! Gimme a break that Mrs. Obama has better style, considering her age Mrs. McCain has it in the bag!

i think both would do us proud fashion-wise as first ladies.
better than mrs. clinton with her pantsuits. sorry, it's overdone. i know she has fat legs and wants to cover them up, but her look is just old.
