Capsule Wardrobe: Adam Lippes for Target

Capsule Wardrobe
I hope everyone is excited for another week of fashionable, budget-friendly looks! So, as everyone knows, fall is right around the corner. Get ready for pumpkin spice raining from the sky. Do you know what else is exciting about fall? There’s another designer collaboration that'll make you want to swarm Target starting September 27. Adam Lippes for Target is, as cliché as it sounds, going to make everyone mad for plaid. As an inspiration sidebar, I thought that in honor of most everyone going back to school, I would create looks that would be classroom-friendly (shout out to my teacher friends!). Trust me, the Adam Lippes for Target pieces are more than just classroom-friendly, they’re run-the-world friendly. Let’s get this party started!

The Pieces:

Adam Lippes for Target Shirt Dress in Painterly Black Plaid $49.99 (available 9/27)
I’ll say it, I love this dress. I’m a sucker for shirt dresses so that may be why. I’m also a sucker for black and white patterns. Basically I’m a sucker for this dress. I started an internship at Cleveland Magazine a few weeks ago and I’ve been discovering a way to dress professionally and fashionably. It’s hard, let me tell you. Especially when I’m located in a smaller city like Cleveland. Wearing culottes and platform sandals play not be as universally appreciated like it would be in New York. This dress, however, checks both of the fashionable and professional boxes. Super classroom appropriate.

SheIn Grey Buckle Shoulder Bag $22
Is anyone else having a major grey obsession? I am for sure. All I am looking for for Christmas, other than a job and an apartment, is a grey winter coat. It seems strange, but that’s what I’m digging right now. So, until then, a grey shoulder bag will suffice.

Tommy Hilfiger Twzelvia Oxford $50
At my internship there’s this really cool editorial assistant. She sits right behind me and is so cool. She brings her bike into work every day and looks so unintentionally hipster, it’s fabulous. Well, one day I wore a pair of two-tone oxfords to work. She told me she liked my shoes. I was flying high for the rest of the day! So, as a result, I have been on an oxford kick ever since. These ones from Tommy Hilfiger are definitely trendy for fall. The maroon suede warms up the comfortable shoe. Stylish and smart!

Something really cool that’s on trendy right now is the layering of dresses and pants, which is something I haven’t seen since my sister’s Bratz doll rocked the look in the early millennium. It adds a visually interesting dynamic to the look as a whole. It also makes the look more feasible for a work day where you are moving around a lot (ahem, teachers!). While the hat may not work in the classroom, it’s definitely something you can throw on when you go out to lunch with your friends or after school.

I have a pair of black boots that look like these that I wear sometimes. I love them, but the problem is they are way too tall. It’s not that I can’t walk in them, because I totally can. It’s actually that they’re too tall to functionally wear in everyday society. People would stare if I wore them to work. They would definitely stare. The problem is, I love them. These black boots, however, are the perfect solution. Not too tall, but still super cool and edgy.

Wednesday
H&M Dress $31

Ok, I definitely have a thing for dresses. They’re great because it’s less clothes to pick out, wear and wash. Sometimes it’s basically like wearing a nightgown to work. It’s cozy, comfy, and completely acceptable. I do have strict rules when it comes to dresses for work however. Thou shalt not wear a dress that is both sleeveless and short. Thou shalt not wear a dress that could be worn out a club. Thou shalt not wear a dress that makes you uncomfortable in any way, shape, or form. This dress from H&M not only follows my rules, it is a killer too. Love, love, love.

Thursday
Newlook Khaki Sleeveless Blazer $31
Adam Lippes for Target Pointed-Toe Ballet Flat $29.99 (available 9/27)

If you’ve been following this weekly column for a while, you should know that I love a good longline sleeveless vest. It adds dimension to a look that otherwise may lack layer. These shoes also add a lot of visual interest. The great part is that they are a part of the same Adam Lippes collection so they are basically born of the same litter as this wonderful dress. Same color scheme and same geometrical pattern. Therefore, they work.

Friday
Adam Lippes for Target Double Layer Shift Dress $49.99 (available 9/27)
LucLuc Dark Blue Distressed Jeans $34

This would be a great casual Friday look. If you’re taking it to the classroom, however, I would recommend toning down the lip and adding a light cardigan. Keep it clean for the kiddos.

To me, there’s something about maroon, grey, black, and white that just scream fashionista. Especially when they’re in the shape of this oversized coat and chunky mule heels. They’re just so fashionable I can’t stand it! If I wasn’t saving every last of my pennies for my future NY apartment, I would go a little crazy with this outfit. In fact, I might do that. It’s crazy good.

Sunday
Adam Lippes for Target Shell Tank $27.99 (available 9/27)
Bonnie Vintage Round Sunglasses $9.99

I’m not sure if this entrée piece of clothing is a dress or a tank. To me, it looks like a tank dress so I styled it as such. If it is, in fact, a tank, throw on a pair of ankle-skimming black trousers to completely transform into Jackie-O.

Are you super excited for the new school year? How about this Target collab?

Love this collection too. I actually have this one marked on my calendar so I don't forget! Target already has some super cute plaid items in stock; although not Lippes. I had a day off last Friday and hit Target and TJ Maxx and picked up a really cute plaid shirt from Target and a skirt (clearance for $7) and a fedora (Vince Camuto) from TJ Maxx. Can't wait for the Lippes though. I believe I NEED a few items from the line esp. the shoes. Love your combos btw!

So much versatility! Great layering ideas! Target always keeps us on our toes! I am excited to see the coats and the backpacks in person. I'm sharing my shopping tips and an Adam Lippes runway comparison, too! http://www.thekeytochic.com/2015/08/expert-tips-for-how-to-shop-adam-lippes.html
