Let's Discuss: Marimekko for Target

Target's next collab is with Marimekko
Target announced this week that it's next designer collab would be with Finnish design house Marimekko, coming April 17. Marimekko for Target features more than 200 playful, print-centric pieces that span outdoor décor, furniture and entertaining essentials, as well as beach and swimwear for women and girls. Prices range from $7.99 for sunscreen to $499.99 for the paddle board. Most items are under $50.

Shoppers are already worried it will be a repeat of Lilly Pulitzer or Missoni, that is, products selling out minutes after the launch and ending up on eBay at inflated prices. To that I say, yes, it will probably happen - Target gave 'Good Morning America' viewers a first look, and revealed the news on Snapchat as well. I think they've covered their bases.

I always thought Marimekko would be a perfect match for Target because Marimekko is all about prints (who hasn't seen their iconic poppy print at Crate & Barrel?) and prints translate well on mass produced items. That's why I think DVF could do a successful collab with Target although I'm not sure she'd go for it.

I am definitely excited for this collab and can't wait to pick up some home decor items. As I type, I'm sitting on a Marimekko chair cushion, a souvenir from one of my all-time favorite Fashion Week shows, and it always makes me smile when I see it.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts - who's excited for Marimekko? How much are you willing to spend...and how early will you line up to shop?!

Been waiting for them to do a collab. Totally fitting. This is so going to turn out like Lilly and Missoni, which means I'm not even going to try. Now if DVF were to do a collab, I'd camp out overnight! That being said, I'd grab that kids tent if it happened to be available.

I'm very excited to see the collection. I'm sure I'll want something from the collection! Here's to hoping Target's website doesn't crash. Again!

I agree - it's an exciting collab! I have a Marimekko duvet cover from Crate and Barrel, and I've always wanted another one. So my fingers are crossed for a cute duvet set to add to my collection.

My standard procedure lately for these collabs is to buy as much as I can online when it first gets posted. Then I may pop into a store while I'm waiting for my shipments to arrive, but this guarantees I get my top items. Especially when they make so many items online-only, this is my winning approach.

Oh, and a DVF partnership would be super super exciting. She did a collab with Gap Kids once so it could happen, right?
