Rant: The Mini-Dress

A so-called minidress from Splendid. Adorable or inappropriate?
Hemlines for dresses this season have reached an all-time high…or should we say low? Today we witnessed a young woman strutting around the Gold Coast wearing what appeared to be a tunic, sans leggings or jeans. Honestly, it was shocking how short this "dress" was. Her bottom was just barely out of sight, like the setting sun a mere second after it dips below the horizon. The slightest gust of wind surely would have spelled disaster, but then again, would she have even cared?

Which got us thinking: how short is too short? And what's with all those tunics and baby dolls that are too short for sane folk to wear alone, but too long to pair with straight-leg pants, skirts or even shorts? Do designers actually expect us to wear these frocks with leggings? How do they expect us to hop in a cab, climb a flight of stairs, or ride the subway in one of these things? Frankly, I find them to be absolutely impractical and indecent. I suppose that makes me old-fashioned, but what do you think? Have you had enough of the minidress trend?
Comments
minidresses can be cute if 1) hem hits just above the knee, no higher 2) dress has structure ie. no babydolls or trapeze styles 3) worn with tights if you're wearing heels, otherwise, flats are best for balance.

p1nkpetuna is right...also you need to layer these dresses with tanks, camis, leggings, etc. it's all how you wear it!!
