Fierce or Tranny: alice + olivia for Payless Boot

We really want to like the alice + olivia for Payless collection, we really do, but so far this designer collaboration has had far more "misses" than "hits." Remember the goofy looking polka-dotted clown flats back in Spring '08? I rest my case. And so it was with some trepidation that I perused the Fall 2008 offerings, and what did my eyes behold? This red patent monstrosity (shown above) called the alice + olivia for Payless Rivington Ankle Boot, $48. The product description says it will "take your style to new heights" - but I'm afraid it will sink them to deep, dark lows. Part of me appreciates the space-age styling, zip front closure and funky little shield that snaps on one side, all of which make this ankle boot rather fierce. But another part of me fears the staggering 4.5" wedge heel with an additional 1" platform makes this shoe seriously tranny, or possibly just plain fug. And the provocative peep-toe (provocative in a bad way) certainly isn't helping, either.

Am I alone in thinking this ankle boot is a tranny "nay"? Help me out: Fierce or tranny?

As much as I love Alice + Olivia, these shoes are just a big NO. I like high heels but these just look wrong. Tranny or not, these are nay either way.

I think if it wasn't patent red...maybe. like a deep dark maroon or something it might work. as it is, the shoe is so loud, the patent red makes it worse! I suppose a really plain a black dress might work. but kinda restricts you on what you can wear, yes?

48 BUCKS for a PAYLESS shoe...who are we kidding. Nordstrom is having their fall sale and I found more delicious designer brands for $50 & 60 - give me a break.

That boot is a hot tranny mess. No way, no how!

I don't think they're that bad- however I would never drop 50 bucks for payless quality shoes... I just went to the Aldo outlet store in chicago yesterday and they have REAL leather booties for 50

Oh, and also, I think its the hardware that makes them Tranny, if that zipper didn't have danglies, and the back didn't have those two studs they would be much better, and I agree about altering the color too...

I would say a no and a nay.... if paired up with nice toe less tights.. and an all black outfit..with a patent red tote or even red nails! that would be a very hot outfit!

other than that.. these shoes could get taken a turn for the worse if not chosen the right style to wear them with..you have to be very careful

Seeing these made me smile b/c I can just picture a friend of a friend who would gobble these up. But for me, NO WAY. They are like ugly moon boots with the toe cut out.

Hahahaha. You know, I don't think I could actually WEAR these, but I kinda love them. Great, modern lines, interesting without being too fussy, and RED. I'm voting fierce ... but will admit to seeing the tranny side of the argument.

I think if it wasn't patent red, it would look much better.

Those could be totally fierce in regular leather and not patent. They are very trendy but they make a statement. Go head Payless!! Their stepping up their fashion game.

AHHH it's a hot tranny mess!

This shoe reminds me of the earlier collections of alice + olivia slingbacks, the ones with a huge platform in weird colors?

They're definitely not making their collection any better with this shoe.

NO. NO. AND NO.

That's tranny, for sure. Good call.

Strangely appealing but a lot like Herman Munster. A lot of $$ for the Payless customer. Afraid they have bombed with this one.

I actually saw these on today... and I would have to say tranny, but maybe its the way the girl wore them, in a black ensemble.. kinda classy with a little bit of kick with the red wedges.. but it was actually sported with cargo pants... BIG NAY

I guess it really is how u wear it

Those Tranny Fug!!!!

I'm a "tranny", and these are nothing like anything i'd ever wear. I think you have the wrong stereotype, most "trannies" try to fit in, not stick out. I see ghetto women or crossdressing men wearing these.
