Fall Trend: The Flat Suede Boot

Steve Madden Suede Slouch boots at VictoriaSecret.com, $109

So maybe I was wrong about wellies. Today, it rained all day long, and I swear every man, woman and child was wearing them. As if to mock me. And the more I saw them, the more I wanted to own my own pair. Hey I said I was impressionable. Anyways, let's talk about the opposite of rubber rain boots: The flat suede boot. I'm always hesitant to buy suede because I've always lived in climates that'll chew up suede and spit it out. But at these prices, how can you go wrong? And they have such a soft, stylish look. I'm going to get myself a pair this season. Here are the options I am considering...

Suede flat boot at CharlotteRusse.com, also available in black, brown or olive, $39.99

Chinese Laundry Women's Turbo Suede Wedge Boot at Amazon.com, also available in chocolate or black $99.95-$129

Mossimo Kamryn Tall Boots at Target.com, also available in brown or gray, $29.99

Sabrina Boot at Delias.com, also available in black, $69.50

Abaete for Payless Mirabelle Studded Boot at Payless.com, $55

Uniform Suede Boot at UrbanOutfitters.com, also available in hunter, cognac and black, $78

I tried on two pairs of suede flat boots at Target including the Kamryn, and hated the fit. Those Sabrinas from Delia are very cute, though.

And thanks to you, I'm probably going to look at the navy wellies from Target. We've had an enormous amount of rain here and they would come in handy. Alas!

I'm a huge fan of suede boots, even though it's a rainy climate here in the winter. I think suede really softens up the look of cold-weather clothing, and with all those heavy fabrics and layering that's sometimes really needed.

Target has some lovely suede-look boots that you might get more wear out of, since you don't have to worry about getting stains on them so much.

My fave pairs of suede boots are a brown one by Bronx and a black one I got on clearance by Sigerson Morrison. They're soft but also cut in a very graceful line. I think you have to be careful that suede boots don't look too slouchy!

I don't know about the suede aspect but I'm all over flat boots this year. This definitely gives me some more options. Now it just needs to cool down and be fall.

I too have tried the flat boots at Target and they aren't the most comfortable boots in the world. They are very cute and don't look cheap but I only wore them a couple of times because of the fit. The inside is this very uncomfortable hard leather/plastic that makes your foot slide. Just not good.

When did this trend ever go out of style?? Flat boots are stylish and practical. With all our sophisticated technology, how come nobody can come up with a waterproof suede?! I wear my slouchy brown suede boots everywhere: with skirts, pants, shorts, heck they'd look with just undies in my room!

I have the chinese laundry turbo suede boots which I bought at Pookie and Sebastian in the color black. I love these boots and you can wear them 3 different ways. You can wear them above the knee like how its pictured, or fold the top flap down so it falls right below the knee, and lastly you can scrunth it all the way down to your shins. So in reality you're getting 3 boots in 1! You can wear these with jeans, leggings, skirts etc. Now that I know you can buy them on Amazon I'm going to get the brown pair too!

You know I'm a fan. But I agree that suede has limited application in climates with ... well, precipitation of any kind.

I love the Steve Maddens, I have them in Black and Grey and I don't know if I'll stop there. Try robynmariesshoecloset.com for the best price on the web.
