BB Reviews Thakoon for Target

The Budget Babe models Thakoon for Target

Yesterday, the new Thakoon for Target collection hit stores, and yours truly was there to check it out. I wasn't too excited about this collection when I first saw the preview pics, but I gotta say, after trying these pieces on, I am totally sold! Thakoon makes me want, nay, yearn to wear bright colors and bold prints. Somehow, he keeps them fresh and classy and sorta understated even though there's a lot going on. I guess this is accomplished in part by simple silhouettes and colors that harmonize more than clash.

Anyways, the quality was comparable to earlier GO lines (decent for the money), and I was pleased to see plenty of 100% cotton. Pieces seemed to fit true to size, however, I should mention that some of the styles that suited my square boyish figure didn't sit well on my younger sister's curves (and we're the exact same size, she's just shaped differently if that makes any sense.) The lone little black dress in this collection (not shown) looked like a hot mess on both of us, and didn't seem to belong in the collection at all.

The 3/4 sleeve shirtdresses, on the other hand, looked fab on both of us, as did a brilliant frog green windbreaker, contrast trim cardigan and those lovely full skirts. My sister and I both agreed that the trench coat was beautiful but would have looked better if it was more fitted and tailored like a classic trench. Still, it was cool and had a nice lining. I'd consider getting it on sale.

There were many other items we wanted to see that weren't in (including those cute cyberfloral shorts), so I'll probably check out another Target or two for a wider selection. Overall, Thakoon for Target exceeded my expectations and put a big smile on my face. Have you seen it? What did you think?

Update: Thakoon for Target is back! Shop select Thakoon re-release dresses at Target.com beginning March 13, 2011.

Thanks for the reviews! I'll definitely be checking this collection out, hopefully today. I'm also very curvy so we'll see how this stuff works on me. Great pics!

Budget Babe Reviews Thakoon sounds similar to The Recessionista Reviews Thakoon from a few days earlier.

I guess that means the collection had the same impression on both parties. Its usually a good sign about a product when you get consistent reactions from a collection.

If you think this post is similar to the one in the blog you mentioned, you obviously only read the title... Additionally, if you are implying something about copying, perhaps you should look at the bigger picture since TBB has been around for like 4 times longer.

PS. BB, I love the cardigan!!

I'm sure many other fashion blogs will be eager to review Thakoon for Target! Heck I've been posting about these since Patrick Robinson did a cheap-chic line (maybe even earlier?). Looking forward to what everyone has to say about this latest collaboration :-)

For good photos of the Thakoon for Target line, go to the Nylon magazine website. They are much more accurate than the photos posted on the target website.
I purchased the blue and white shirtdress (fabulous!) the blue and green striped dress and the blue cardigan. All look great on, but the dresses are the star.

You're so right - those prints are wild, yet somehow orderly. And I love that this line, with all it's vibrant colors, is coming out now, in the dead of winter. Hopefully, folks will figure out ways to work even the lighter weight pieces into their daily wear.

I especially love the black and white, spidery, batik-y print stuff! Need to check this out - just worried that the hemlines are too short for me! Can I ask what boots you are wearing in these pictures? The boots look so good on your slim calves (I can never find boots for slim calves!)

I checked the target website the first day the collection was out. When I checked out yesterday, the navy/white print dress was completely sold out!!!

You know, I went to Targe this morning to get household supplies when I saw the blue/white shibori-print dress and immediately tried it on. You know I can't resist the tie-dye. ;o)

Love at first sight!

I couldn't believe how beautiful this dress (and really all the pieces in this line) are ... I think this just might be the best Go Intl. line I've seen. The prints are gooorgeous!

I saw the ad for the blue tie-dyed dress in Vanity Fair 3 weeks ago so I drove like a maniac to the San Diego Target to get it on Dec. 28th. The store was a mess and they didn't even have any Thakoon stuff out until that night. The Target employees bought dresses before they were put out on the floor. I drove to other Targets to get it and it sold out immediately. Some of the stuff is mega-ugly and frumpy- the dresses are pretty cute though. The green windbreaker was super cheap and tacky looking.

Hey- I think those boots in the photos above look TERRIBLE with the dresses. They would look better with sandals!

The Thakoon line was out today when I was at my local target and i'm sad to say that I wasn't really impressed. I just kinda passed over it, then found this article and surprise it's supposed to be a big deal. The only thing that was memorable to me was the name. sorry.

I love that cardigan :-)

AND, where might I procure those boots!?
#14 Rachel on 2008-12-29 23:23 (Reply)
The boots are this season Nine West. I haven't seen them online but you might find them at a store near you, they had a great selection of boots on sale.

I really like the cardigan too. I like how the dresses look in the pics, but I fear they would look overwhelming on my 5'1" frame.

Thanks for the review! I've been disappointed by past Go collaborations (I think the pieces always end looking as cheap as their prices), but this motivated me to go to Target and give the line a chance. And you know what? I thought the Thakoon line was totally fab! I ended up buying the blue tie-dye cardigan and the navy short-sleeve cardigan (that one is sooo much more chic in person than it looks on the website). And I'm thinking about buying more pieces online! Well done, Thakoon.

The little 3/4 shirtdress is sooo cute! Will definitely have to take a trip to Target :-)

Love the prints and colors, but too overwhelming on short people (like me). The shirtdresses looked great on the rack but felt really bulky on. I LOVED the trench, though -- lots of people seem to be complaining that the fabric is too heavy/stiff, but that's a plus in my book. C'mon, it's a trench!
