On September 14, I attended the Rosa Cha Spring Summer 2011 runway show at the Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. I have to admit I wasn't familiar with Rosa Cha prior to seeing the show but I certainly won't forget this supercool high-fashion swimwear label anytime soon. Designer Alexandre Herchcovitch, a Brazilian designer who has his own eponymous fashion line as well, turned out a dramatic assortment of sexy lingerie-inspired bikinis, one-piece bathing suits and micro-mini dresses that were at once futuristic and retro, hearkening back to the perfecto jacket of the eighties. I loved the graphic use of colors, floral prints and black colorblocking but for a fashion week newbie such as myself, it was hard to concentrate on the clothes (or lack thereof) in the presence of such rare humans, ie. the models, including such beauties as Chanel Iman (shown above). Wow.

"On the Spring 2011 Fashion Show, Rosa Cha presents structured and fluid garments, influenced by the construction of underwear and perfecto jackets.
Rosa Cha continues to innovate by mixing different worlds so as to create a distinctive and contemporary collection. The beachwear garments are structured as lingerie, especially the on-piece swimsuits, bringing transparency, cut-outs and lines that shape the woman's body, making her more beautiful and sensual.
Another inspiration of the designer, Alexandre Herchcovitch, both for bikinis, one-piece swimsuits, and garments, is the perfecto jacket, an icon of the 1980's and a classic today. The garments are embellished with zipper and collar typical of the jacket.
The collection patterns show the Brazilian tropical gardens, with all its diversity of shapes and colors. The pattern "Espada de Sao Jorge" (Brazilian's name of the plant Sansevieria trifasciata, or 'snake plant') consists of shades of greens and yellowish details of the plant that names the pattern, which, besides being a typical specimen of the Brazilian tropical flora, has an emotional value as it means protection for these that are superstitious. On the other hand, the Avis Rara pattern of the fashion show presents flowers and birds that brighten those gardens with colors."
