As buyers, we need to beware—the shopping world is full of temptations. You don't have to succumb. If you follow a few suggestions:
—excerpted from Power Spending: Getting More for Less by Carolyn Johnston, Eric Poulin and Robin Poulin
Full disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. I received a free copy of Power Spending for review purposes. - Make a list, and stick to it, to avoid impulse buys on your shopping trips.
- If you keep track of what you already have, you won’t waste money buying what you don’t need.
- If you research before you buy large items you will know how much you should expect to pay, and then you will be able to find good deals.
- Patience is a virtue—be patient. Most items will eventually go on sale.
- Before you buy make sure you are satisfying a need instead of a want.

As an added bonus, when the two months are up I also usually know exactly what I want and if I really will wear it. So it saves me from buying items I won't wear.
