Pond's Luminous Clean: A Review

Pond's Luminous Clean: A Review

Pond's recently introduced a new line called Luminous Clean, featuring three products enriched with moisturizing ingredients and soft white Kaolin clay, a natural mineral "known to gently draw out deep-dwelling impurities." The Luminous Clean line claims to brighten dull skin, and when you think about it, what's more important than glowing, luminous skin? Nothing, right? Maybe ending global poverty but after that, not much else. (Joking.)

Keep reading for my review!

What they claim:

Pond's Luminous Clean Cream Cleanser: Gently draws out trapped impurities and make-up to brighten dull skin. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested. ($6.49, 6 oz.)

Pond's Luminous Clean Daily Exfoliating Cleanser: Deeply cleans and exfoliates dull skin to renew radiance. Exfoliates skin using gentle microbeads. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested. ($6.49, 5 oz.)

Pond's Luminous Clean Wet Cleansing Towelettes: Draws out trapped make-up and impurities to brighten dull skin. Moisture Lock Seal keeps towelettes wet. Hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, and safe for contact lens wearers. ($5.79,

What I thought:

Cleanser: This opalescent white cleanser is silky and suds up nicely. You only need a pea size amount to clean your face (or at least that's all I need, I don't like to "overwash"). It's gentle and leaves clean soft and supple. You need to follow up with moisturizer but it's not drying. The scent is pleasant and soapy, albeit a bit artificial, but it doesn't linger. As a cleanser, it's great, but after using this for two weeks daily, I did not notice any visible increase in my skin's luminosity. This is tough to measure obviously but let's just say my skin was not noticeably brighter or glowing. Oh well, guess it's back to eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep and exercising!

Exfoliating Cleanser: This exfoliater seems to be identical to the cream cleanser with the addition of small microbeads. It's very, very gentle. Almost too gentle. I know it's meant for daily use but when I exfoliate, I like a little more "oomph." I'll continue to use this until it's finished but I probably wouldn't buy it in the future.

Cleansing Towelettes: These towelettes are great for makeup removal, light exfoliation and cleansing. Since I'm lazy with my beauty routine, I love using them before bed. Bonus: You don't have to rinse with water after using these, so they're ideal for use at home or while traveling. The scent reminds me of a household cleanser - it's pleasant, don't get me wrong, but smells more like something I'd use to clean my bathtub. Speaking of which, these towelettes are so big that after wiping my skin, I've been using them to touch up my bathroom! Wipe down the sink, floor tiles, you name it! Ha.

All in all, this is a solid line of skin care products that performs well but don't expect any miracles in the "luminosity" department. You can follow Pond's on Facebook for more info, deals and the occasional free sample.

Have you tried any of the Luminous Clean products? What did you think?
