5 Under $50: Holographic Accessories

Designers are turning out some eye-catching accessories featuring hologram-like finishes that range from feminine to glamorous to futuristic. Christian Siriano's Spring 2013 collection, Blumarine's Fall 2012 show and Stella McCartney's Resort 2013 presentation or Proenza Schouler's PS11 metallic hologram satchel offer major inspiration. For spring, a strategically placed holographic accessory can look light and bright on any budget. Who can resist a little iridescence? Below, I've rounded up 5 of my favorite pieces under $50 from Payless, Forever 21 and more.

1. Christian Siriano for Payless "Margo" Oxford, $44.99
Straight off the runway, these eye-catching pink metallic oxfords are perfect for spring. I just bought them last week during a Payless BOGO sale - could not resist! Another tempting option: The "Julie" Mary Jane features a holographic finish and supersleek profile. If I can find these on sale, they will be mine.

2. Nasty Gal Hologram Satchel, $38
On its own, this gold satchel seems very bling, but paired with a pastel blouse and light jeans, it'll add a subtle touch of day to night shine.

3. Layla Hologram Effect Nail Polish in Mercury, $15.50
Consider trying the hologram trend on your nails for a mesmerizing mani. I've never used this particular polish but you can see swatches here.

4. Forever 21 Hologram Ballet Flats, $16.80
Add interest to a basic look with these hologram ballet flats in gold, silver or gunmetal. Siriano also makes a holographic ballet flat with a bow detail if you're looking for another option.

5. Forever 21 Hologram Pumps, $24.80
Take things one step further with a hologram high heel. Try wearing these in unexpected ways, like with punchy brights for day or skinny jeans and a ladylike blazer.

Amazing! I'm loving the Siriano's pictured, and the ballet flats you linked to as well!

Thank you so much for this post on top of your quick reply to my request regarding this look! If you ever spot any hologram (holographic, petrol, whatever you want to call it) bags or shoes in the budget range I would love to see another post. For those looking for cheaper holographic nail polish options, China Glaze is releasing the Hologlam collection this spring or summer. You can usually get China Glaze for $3 or $4 online, but they might charge more for this collection. Thanks!

I definitely need some padding between my feet and the ground, and the sole on the Siriano oxfords looks promising. Is it rubber? Are they comfortable? Thanks!

@Mair Mair - I haven't had a chance to wear mine yet (3 feet of snow outside), but the sole is plastic. There's not much padding that I can feel but I think the soles will give a bit and provide some cushioning.

I love holographic polishes! They let me follow this trend without stepping too much out of my comfort zone.
