3 Ways to Wear Leg Warmers

A question I'm often asked is how to wear leg warmers, a fab winter accessory that got a bad wrap because of one too many aerobics videos in the '80s. Banish those images from your mind forever and hear me out: One of my favorite ways to wear leg warmers is peeking out from underneath tall boots, over leggings, because this way you get an extra layer of warmth and just a glimpse of leg warmer. Cute and understated. Leg warmers also look great worn over flats or ankles boots and either skinny jeans, leggings or tights. To truly grasp the greatness of leg warmers, it's best to see them in action, so I've gathered together 3 photos from FreePeople.com that illustrate chic ways to wear them (click on the numbers for more product info).

All three looks are definitely on the casual-cool side. Stick with solids and chunky knits if you're unsure about how to wear your legwarmers. Experimentation is key, however, because there is no one-size-fits-all styling solution when it comes to this accessory.

I want to wear them soooo bad!! but alas, I'm in Atlanta and it's just not cold enough. I spent weeks trying to find the perfect winterboots, and then realized I'd just boil in them. Hopefully if I move somewhere cold next time, they'll still be cool:)

I don't and probably won't wear them (the 80's are too emblazoned in my brain)-but look number one looks surprisingly cute to me! Look number two-ughhh- too close to what was.....

I think leg warmers done right are fly. These particular outfits are not something I would wear- but they are a good example of what the possibilities are- I personally might wear all one color (like black) and then add a neon leg warmer or something- another way I like seeing them worn is ontop of a skinny jean, but inside a calf boot so there is about three inches of leg warmer showing- it looks cute!

Leg warmers need to stay in the 1980s where they (didn't really) belong. There's no way to make them look good.

The best (for me): Underneath jeans. Despite how cute they can look, I prefer to wear them is underneath jeans (or any other pants) I usually wear long knee-high socks, and a pair of leggings over them.

Peeking out from tall boots is cute too, but you have to have the right kind of leg warmers. :-)

Lastly, with a short skirt.

i think leg warmers look sexy with skirts/ shorts and high heels. i also wear my boots and pull my leg warmers a lil over my knees for warmth when im wearing a skirt.

eww! i hate when ppl wear leg warmers over pants, perhaps you are not suppose to wear anythig over pants! if you are, its ABOVE OR AT THE KNEE LEVEL!

I wear mine under my flared jeans but over part of my heals, so not with flats. You just see the bottoms of them. It's really pretty cute. It reminds me a lot of the different sweater boots that are coming out. Give it a try =D

Great ways. REALLY ugly boots in th e first picture... blech.if you want casual way to wear 'em, wear dark wash skinny jeans and bright/neon legwarmers. Also wear a shoe like converse and put the l.w.'s over the converse, not scrunched in. but make sure you don't put them on the heel. It would suck if they got ruined :-)
