La Redoute Discontinues U.S. Site

French fashion retailer La Redoute has discontinued its U.S. site, according to their website (http://www.us.redoute.com/). I'm kinda saddened by this news, even though I've only ordered from them once before (read my review). Call me crazy but I'd guess the economy is to blame. Are you bummed by this news or indifferent?

UPDATE: La Redoute Resurrected for U.S. Shoppers
Comments
Totally indifferent. Frankly, they didn't update their merchandise enough to keep my interest.

i'm bummed because i never got a chance to shop with them!
#2 lani (Homepage) on 2009-02-21 09:29 (Reply)
I'm completely indifferent to the news. I never placed an order with La Redoute and hadn't even heard of the retailer until reading a review of their service on your blog. It really is too bad, though, for those who shopped with them.
#3 Katie on 2009-02-21 10:44 (Reply)
i've shopped with them a couple of times. it's been a hit or miss type of thing. i always like to look to see what catches my eye but i guess not anymore. oh well!
#4 smileygirl on 2009-02-21 10:45 (Reply)
I shopped with LaRedoute quite a bit. My most memorable item is a beautiful light gray coat in a mix of cashmere and lambswool. Soft as a baby's . . . That was nearly a steal at a deeply discounted price plus an added coupon thrown in for good measure. I truly miss their US online site, but there's always their french site. My second language is French, so I'm comfortable with the site.
#5 Dinah on 2009-02-22 15:09 (Reply)
How are you able to get delivery from them. I went on the site, made an order but due to my US zip code, I couldn't get a delivery.
#5.1 sherly on 2009-12-03 19:21 (Reply)
you can order with the french site la redoute .fr they make the delivery to the usa,or if you want to buy with the us dollars,go to la redoute.com in english or french language they delivers all around the world

I don't think that the UK site will send LaRedoute goods outside of select areas of Europe. A Sears site in Canada carries some La Redoute items, but very pricey unless on special sale.
#6 Dinah on 2009-02-22 15:18 (Reply)
I'm pretty indifferent - I've browsed their site before, but never bought.

I'M TOTALLY LET DOWN BY THIS! I DISCOVERED THEM ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS LIVING IN LONDON, ENGLAND. I GOT 90% OF MY CLOTHES FROM THEM.

WHEN I MOVED TO THE STATES I WAS REALL CHUFFED TO SEE THEY WERE HERE. BUT, WHAT THEY HAD TO OFFER WAS SUCH A TINY VARIETY OF THEIR AVERAGE INVENTORY. I WAS BEYOND DISAPPOINTED. I'VE HAD TO CONTINUE PURCHASING MY ITEMS FROM HOME AND HAVING THEM SHIPPED OVER BY MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND OFFER EVERYTHING THEY DO IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

MAYBE IT WAS A FRANCHISE TYPE OF THING, AND THE VP'S INVOLVED HERE HAD VERY LITTLE BUSINESS SENSE AND MASSIVELY POOR JUDGEMENT WITH THE SLIM SELECTION OF ITEMS.

ANYWAY, I WILL FOREVER BE A FAN OF THE UK SITE. IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN, PLEASE LOOK THROUGH THEIR ITEMS, FABULOUS VARIETY. IT'S JUST A PITY THEY AREN'T ABLE TO SHIP DIRECTLY TO THE U.S.

SORRY THE AMERICANS NEVER GOT A FAIR CHANCE AT WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FANTASTIC ALTERNATIVE TO THE USUAL FASHION HERE.
#10 KATIE P on 2009-03-07 13:36 (Reply)
Katie- I too, was a huge fan, although never lived in UK, just really liked the styles and was different from the usual US clothing. I just went online for the first time this year only to find out this disturbing news. I don't speak much French and am wondering if there is any way to order a catalog or purchase merchandise. Do you have any information that would be helpful? Thank you for your time.
#10.1 Melanie on 2009-03-10 11:37 (Reply)
Hiya Melanie,

Thanks for your note. Unfortunately, LR items from other countries can't be directly sent from their sites to the US. They only ship within their region.

The only way to get LR items is to go directly to one of the designer's websites, such as Renee Derhy or Laura Clement and see about getting them shipped to the US.

Even if you don't speak a foreign language, you can still leave an email and they will more than likely reply back in English.

The reason I am able to get my items is because I go online and have a look, then ask my aunt or best friend to get the items for me and post them to me. I send them the money through my Paypal account, so that they are not out of pocket and I don't have pay international conversion fees.

If you plan to shop in the UK or Europe, whatever the price is, be sure to double that if paying in US dollars. The British Pound is almost twice as strong as the Dollar and the Euro is not quite double.

Example: If something costs 48.00 BP, it will actually cost you just under $96.00. But, you can't actually pay in American dollars, it has to be British Pounds or Euros if shopping in France, Spain, Italy. Other countries don't accept American dollars just as the States will not accept international money.

Paypal is the easiest and safest way to go because Paypal will automatically convert your American dollars for you into whatever currency needed.

If you use a credit card, you will have to pay international conversion fees and sometimes they can be a bit pricey. You can check with your credit card company for their fees and surcharges.

The best suggestion I can offer, is look through Ebay UK, France, Spain, etc.. and see if any of the items you like are being offered. Many items are listed to be sent globally. Say there is a particular item you like on Ebay France and the seller isn't showing that they ship to the States, you can write them (Ebay converts English into French or whatever language needed automatically). Most of the time they will happily say yes because it helps them get a sale.

Sorry that I don't have better news for you. I hope some of this info helps.

Good Luck in finding your goodies,

Katie

Yes, they'll answer, but it will be a useless message, like the one I got: "This website caters for UK ordering only, please visit www.laredoute.com for further information on ordering for the USA." The site www.laredoute.com leads you to every other country in the world, BUT the US and it does NOT have info on "ordering for the USA"!

Bummed on the West Coast. La Redoute offered pleasantly, but not dramatically, stylish fashions for a great price. Their sweaters are great, and I bought a super black swingy shirt dress that goes with everything.

I just sought out the site tonight to update my wardrobe with some new pieces to go with some boots I just bought. Too bad for sure.
#11 Marissa from San Francisco on 2009-03-09 23:32 (Reply)
LaRedoute is the only place that I found pants to fit perfectly. Can we still order from overseas?
#12 ginger on 2009-03-11 08:57 (Reply)
I'm relly disappointed. I've shopped them for years and never had a clue. Guess the mess we are in is to blame. Great styles and quality. Got a couple of pairs of shoes and they really fit. Who knew 3 1/2 inch heels could be comfortable. Only in Europe!
#13 heather on 2009-03-12 20:31 (Reply)
I'm going to miss them. I've ordered from the site quite a bit, even had their credit card (0 balance). sizing could be problematic but the clothes were stylish, of decent quality, and fairly inexpensive. oh, well...

I am very bummed! For the past 6 years I've been buying my clothes from them. I just found out a few minutes ago that they discontinued your US website. It's the only store that I know of that has great clothes for very reasonable prices.
#15 Trish on 2009-03-19 20:23 (Reply)
I'm so shocked by the news. I always buy my winter sweaters from them. I didn't buy anything this season because I was pregnant and now after I gave birth I'm planning my spring wardrobe and I couldn't reach their web site. I'm not a happy shopper. I'll miss this store. I liked this store becuase it has styles that are not seen in the states (USA).
#16 Mel on 2009-03-21 23:12 (Reply)
Totally bummed. I have been ordering from them for about 5-6 years and do a big order every spring and every fall. 90% of my wardrobe is from them as I love the styles (I come from a European family and their styles are so much more chic than USA). I wish I could order from the UK site but might have to do what the other poster did by getting family over there to order for me. :-(
#17 michele on 2009-03-25 13:33 (Reply)
I am very diappointed since I and my two daughters shopped for years from their catalog and we were very pleased with most of the merchandise. The clothes have a more feminine and flattering cut and the clothes had a certain style which we liked.
#18 Sonia on 2009-03-27 21:36 (Reply)
I agree with the sentiment others have stated. I LOVED their clothing. I didn't even realize they had discontinued sales to the U.S. until I got online to make some purchases with my tax refund. I'm bummed too, since I have no overseas relatives to rely on. Guess I'll have to find a new favorite, but I doubt I'll be able to find this kind of stylish fashion anywhere else.

This sucks. I've ordered from La Redoute a few times, and I love their fashions and their pricing. You really can't get better deals from any other catalogue or online retailer. And sites like ebay are tedious to me.

I'm bummed, I had a few cute and unusual things from La Redoute. But it's probably better for me that it's gone. One thing that drove me crazy: every time I ordered from the site I got tons of extra catalogues. I hated that.

I have a closet full of great unique clothes from them, but then the clothes just got boring and then they stopped updating the line...I mean who wants to buy the same skirt and top this year that was featured in the catalog last year! I kept hoping they would get it together and go back to the cool catalog that it once was, but I guess not now!?!?!

I'm bummed. I discovered French disposable style during a visit to Paris - not their usual quality, but extremely affordable and far more interesting than American catalog fare. Back home, I was delighted to find French fashions in a local catalog. Fashionistas who hate malls have so few choices in the burbs.

I have been looking for Laura Clement's website, because I adore her tank tops. But I've been unable to find it. I used to buy her stuff from La Redoute (and many other items of clothing, honestly). I'm really rather bummed that the site closed. Do you know where else I can purchase Laura Clement's clothing? I tried Googling her, but I haven't had any luck.

I am totally saddened. I had been a customer of theirs already while living in Europe since 1988 and have always been happy with their merchandise. Everything fit me perfectly. They had great prices and a good selection and the fact that I was buying clothing not made in Korea or China made me even happier. Now who will I be buying my clothing from? Guess I will have to do some intense searching.

I think a lot has to do with the Commerce Dept. Hey...I'd gladly buy Made in USA, but it's hard to find and the quality is never as good as in the past. America needs quality goods again.
#33 LINDA E. on 2009-06-21 12:19 (Reply)

#34 Lauren on 2009-06-25 18:31 (Reply)
I was a regular La Redoute shopper in the U.S. I also found the quality of their clothing to be hit or miss, but mostly very good to excellent quality. I have several LaRedoute sweaters, skirts, a lovely rose corduroy jacket with very fashionable cut and styling, and several pairs of shoes I adore. The one thing you absolutely could not beat was their pricing---items were frequently on sale, and you could always find a 15% off coupon on the Internet coupon sites. I used to get huge orders of clothing for cheap, compared to what you'd pay at retail outlets or other catalogs. I am definitely bummed. While not all of LaRedoute's styles were my taste, much of it was, and it was DIFFERENT. We don't all want to buy the same stuff over and over! U.S. clothing catalogs, get a clue!

La Redoute has the absolute best bathing suits! The best! Better than anything I can get in the U.S. for the price! Well, imagine my dissapointment when I went to go replenish my supply and could not!

Wish me luck ladies. Desperate times call for desperate measures! I put an order in for "maillots de bain" with Google Language by my side all the way on www.laredoute.fr

Let's hope I translated everything correctly and my order goes through!

I am also very disappointed. I shopped from them regularly. They were my favorite catalog shop hands down. The color options are so much better than the clownish US stores that have no subtly (or taste).
It does look like you can choose shipping to the US from the French site.
But the one problem with that would be exchanging sizes. The shopping cart shows a price reduction to the US (I'm guessing it's the removal of the VAT) but my French is weak enough that I didn't read to see if there would be customs charges.

I'm incredibly sad!! I shopped there a lot, the clothing was fantastic for work, but was hit or miss on quality, mostly miss, but it was cheap, what did I expect? That being said, the majority of my favorite clothing came from them and I can honestly say that La Redute helped shaped the way I dress today. I was able to afford and mix and match outfits that I adored and it started a base that I've added onto with higher quality supplements. My only real issue was sizing was difficult, sometimes I was a 4 sometimes a 12... that's a HUGE discrepancy and it often took me quite a few send backs to get the right size. I'll miss them a LOT, already do.
#43 Chelsea on 2009-09-08 21:15 (Reply)
I'm kind of sad, I haven't shopped from them for a while because they weren't offering new stuff. When I stopped visiting the site they had had the same selection for a long time. But I was looking for them now because I needed some new pieces for work and they had some pretty good stuff, not great quality but nice looking and a good price.
#44 wanda on 2009-09-11 19:55 (Reply)
I am completely bummed about this. I've shopped with them quite a bit and I love the fit, colors, textures and chic looks. They had some great classics, along with trendy looks and some great combination looks and accessories. They were also affordable and you didn't mind springing for some more expensive items either. They were worth it. Loved their shoes, skirts, dresses, casual wear, coats, suits...I wasn't finding anything like it here for that value - or all in one place.
Au revoire :-(

I am a LaRedoute super fan! I bought so many of my clothes online from them!
I really miss them here in the U.S. I was hoping that at some point they would return. I am searching for a substitute, but so far can't find any with the style, variety AND PRICE!
I'd take suggestions from anyone if they've found anything, or a way to get to La Redoute in another country. The UK site told me they do not ship to the US. I'm still not sure why they left the U.S. market, however however I adhere to the conspiracy theory!!
Come back La Redoute! :-(

I am a huge fan of La Redoute! I buy from the French website as they will ship to the USA. There are some differences though. You must return an item within two weeks from the time you get it at your home, the prices change daily!!!! They will only honor the price difference if you bring it to their attention with in 7 days other wise you are out of luck. Some items will not ship to the USA because they are not in house (no subs or back orders). And you will pay a increased price in shipping, but because you are not a French citizen they will take off one of the taxes, so in a sense the price that you see for the item will be what you pay and only 5 euors for shipping. Hope this all makes sense.

Good Luck,
Cheryl

I loved La Redoute! I have been stewing around about the loss of their site for months. Excellent natural fabric clothing - great wool, cotton, silk. Loved the sweaters. The UK site said they would not ship to the US, interesting that the French site will Good to know. Would be nice if another site would crop up with the same type of quality and prices. I will watch and look in vain.

I'm dissapointed. I always thouht they had the best values for winter coats. I live on the east coast and with the winters here I was always able to find multiple styles from la redoute I have ordered from them many times because of their reasonable prices. There really isn't anything comparable. Maybe h&m has similar style but I find that their clothes lack resilience.
#49 Cori on 2009-09-29 15:40 (Reply)
Ladies! You CAN order from laredoute.fr! I had two orders shipped to NY last year! Most of it was kids clothing (can't get enought of european styles). My first order came in a month or so (probably because it was a larger order, and it got held up at customs). But my second order arrived in 2 weeks!

So if your French is good, there is still a chance to have Laredoute in US!

PS. I used http://translation2.paralink.com/ for translation. Worked well for my needs :-)

Boo, first Biotherm now La Redoute?!? Why don't the French like us? (oh wait, don't answer that)
I loved La Redoute because you could get cheaper versions of high fashion from certain French Design Houses like Comptoir de Contonniers. I have been using them since 2000 and I thought I would pop on today to check out their Fall line and I couldn't figure out what happened to the US link. Thanks for the update, and I guess now I will have to rely on the store Zara until La Redoute decides to sell to us again. :-P

This is sad. I would get sweaters from them once or twice a year. I agree that they had a lot of unique fashions on their site. I loved the colors and shapes.

I went to their site today just to randomly browse, wondering why I couldn't access their US page. I did a Google search which led me to your blog, and now I know why. This is disappointing because I love their stuff.

I can somewhat navigate through the French page with the little French I remember from high school way back when, but it's a futile task since they no longer ship to the US. :-( Sigh.

So I suppose it's not too late to add my 2 cents, nearly a year after the news, and.... I'M BUMMED!!!

I last shopped La Redoute in fall '04 and bought many of my honeymoon fashions. The clothes were all chic and stunning; namely an ivory kimono-top pantsuit that I wore on our departing flight.

The only reason I didn't shop La Redoute after that, was, as a full-figured woman, I had ordered from their 'La Femme' line. I was bummed, (and a little ticked!) when they discontinued 'La Femme' at the end of 2004! At that time, it was put as they "had no IMMEDIATE plans" to sell plus sizes anymore! So, I had myself removed from their mailing list, and shopped other Redcats brands with current plus-sizing. (But NOT ROAMANS! NEVER again!)

Fast forward: 5 years and 3 kids later, (twins plus one!) and now I'm in the market for apparel that doesn't have nursing slits or belly panels! So I google "La Redoute", hoping they've done an about face on the 'plus' clothing; only to be majorly disappointed.

The Catch 22: Yes, they have a plus line, but no retailing in the states! (DANG!DARN!... and other assorted curses, that you'll just have to imagine!)
Oh well. C'est la vie!

I miss them all the time. Their skirts fit me perfectly and two of them are still my current faves. I had one of them sent over from Europe by my mom, when it had sold out over here. I created an account in Sweden, had it shipped to her and she then mailed it over to me. I may have to do the same again becuase there seems to be a "ban" on nice skirts in the US these days, can't find nice fashionable ones anywhere...

I keep wishing they would reopen or at the very least mail to the US from France...

That is so sad. I used to shop a lot with them a while back. Had some sizing issues with dresses but all tanks, jackets, swimwear and lingerie were excellent and oh so beautiful! It's tough to find lightweight and flirty European summer styles in U.S. Spiegel and VS are also nice but way pricier.

I'm so upset at the closing of the US website. I used to get their catalog in the mail and ordered many items and loved every item. I'm going to Mexico and decided to visit their website and found some great items. However, I was unable to order anything and decided to search Google and found your blog. I'm so sad right now. You see, I'm a plus size girl and really appreciated their fashions for plus size girls. For some reason, the US fashion for a size 18-20, young woman, is soooo old. The syles make me look old. La Redoute fashion made me look my age and I felt wonderful. It really boost my ego.

Lane Bryant, Avenue or any US plus size company can't compare to La Redoute. Their fashions for a size 18 girl is wonderful. I don't see their styles anywhere and the price, you can't beat it. I'm going to miss them terribly.

I'm going to try the French website. Hopefully, I can find similar items. I also went on the Amazon UK website and found their clothes. The site says you can ship to US but when I tried to complete my order, it said the items couldn't be shipped.
I hope they decide to ship to the US once again. I'll be waiting.

My experience with La Redoute (France) is: I'd stay away from this company! I purchased some clothes--very low quality--and they took almost 2 months to mail them. In the meantime, I kept trying to contact them by E-mail--didn't want to pay to call France!--to cancel the order, but they NEVER answered. I finally got the clothes and returned them. It cost $37 for 4 pieces to be mailed. After almost a month, they sent me a CHECK in Euros! There was an 8.38 Euros in "agreed reduction" (?) with no explanation whatsoever. I have been trying to contact them to ask to have the TOTAL amount credited to my card and they have not yet answered. This is NOT a serious business. This is the short version of the story. I am considering creating a web site just to expose these people!

UPDATE, everybody! My experience with La Redoute (France) is: I'd stay away from this company! I purchased some clothes--very low quality--and they took almost 2 months to ship them. In the meantime, I kept trying to contact them by E-mail--didn't want to pay the fees to call France!--to cancel the order, but they NEVER answered. I finally got the clothes and returned them. I was a loyal customer and wish they would open their clothing line back up to us. There clothes fit perfect, they were good bargins and I still wear a pair of shoes I got from there about 4 years ago, people love them. and they last!!!

come back or let us order on line from the other sites

I'm TOTALLY bummed. I shopped there a lot. Problem may have been between OUS fashion and US fashion. Travelling abroad the clothes styles are similar to what the US wore in the 80's still....and so we probably didn't have the sales they needed. I for one used to order quite often, now I'm limited to slim pickings on Ebay.

I was just in Paris and all their clothes are very cheap, cheaply made and very expensive. I saw so many boutiques with ripped clothes for over $100. Thin material....crappy by our standards. Its not just this company it was ALL over Paris. I was shocked. La Redoute was a pretty good company considering they are from the UK and still cheap.

-Sad in MN!!

I loved the clothes! I'm very unhappy that they no longer have the us website.

I just learned that La Redoute no longer sells in the U.S. How frustrating! I just discovered them a couple of years ago & bought a few things - one of them a black top that always garners compliments. I've been cutting back on spending but just wanted to see what they might have on sale... Shoot! :-( Thanks for the info!

I will really miss this catalog and site. Absoutely the best clothes at the best prices, I wasn't in a position to buy a lot for awhile and now that I am...you're gone...you will be missed. Great stuff!

I guess I am the exception! La Redoute France was EXTREMELLY unprofessional, never answered my E-mails, did not have a return address available, took about 2 months to ship my clothes, charged an absurd shipping fee; in short, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Never want to have anything to do with these people!
#75 Emilia on 2010-06-10 18:39 (Reply)
Does anyone know of another website with such affordable clothes on it? I used to get my work clothes on this site, and I miss it greatly.

If you're US size 12 and up, OneStopPlus.com has a limited line of
La Redoute available.

I agree! I am reallyl upset about this.. I am so tired and bored with american clothing and discovered this site about 5 years ago. I bought several items from them, had a credit card with them even. Very sad. I wish there were more alternatives, that are not super expensive, in the US for clothing. :-(

I am really sad that La Redoute discontinued their US website. I ordered all my coats and jackets from them. They are truly missed.

I have a cacharel multicolored sweater/coat I purchased in 2004 and STILL wear. I seldom go out in it that I don't have strangers compliment me on it! I got it for only about $100. I am saddened La Redoute has left the US.
#80 Sue on 2010-12-21 19:57 (Reply)
They were way ahead of the trend.
I suspect they couldn't make it for a few reasons. ie - THey used quality fabrics and the sizes were cut for European sizing?
Sad to see them go. I ordered some great wool blend sweaters(and i'm petite) and unique Renee Derhy tops that are still conversation pieces to this day.....hope they return soon

Bummed about La Redoute. I had shopped with them a long time ago, forgotten about them, then just found an old catalog of theirs in my file cabinet. I got excited to see wht they have now only to find them no longer available

I was just checking to see if they came back. In their glory days I shopped the catalog a lot and never had any real problems. I do see where those that made comments about not updating cat and other probs but I shopped w/them to the end and still found great looks and good service. I still have several of the tops/trousers that must be 8yrs old looking great. Also loved CCB Paris. I miss these companies and enjoyed doing business w/them.
