Day of the Dead, Cavalli for the Living

El Día de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, is an important Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1 (All Saints' Day) and November 2 (All Souls' Day). Far from being morbid, it's a happy time to honor those who have departed with ofrendas (offerings), handcrafted decorations, altars, special foods, costumes and parades.

A popular symbol of El Día de los Muertos is the calavera, or skull, which celebrants represent in masks and foods such as sugar skulls. We love the traditions and amazing folk art of this holiday, so when we spotted Roberto Cavalli's Skull T-Strap Sandal (above), we couldn't help but wonder if it was created especially for the occasion.

Alas, it would be cruel of us to show you this foot-bling without giving you a little somethin' somethin' to take home in your goodie bag, which is why we're reminding you that Roberto Cavalli for H&M hits stores November 8th—and we're dying to see it!

In the meantime, check out these gorgeous drawings of the collection by fashion illustrator Liselotte Watkins…she has a real knack for bringing Cavalli's creations to life.
