Geren Ford Spring 2010 Show

some of my fave looks (photo credits: www.elle.com, Tom Concordia Photography)

On Tuesday afternoon, I caught the Geren Ford Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show at the Metropolitan Pavilion, part of New York Fashion Week. Urban Outfitters fans will no doubt recognize Geren Ford as the force behind "Hawks" by Geren Ford, an ongoing diffusion line collaboration launched in 2008. But even the main line is accessibly priced, and you can find many pieces under $100 on sale at sites like singer22.com and shopbop.com. For spring, designer Geren Lockhart drew inspiration from time spent in Buenos Aires and Uruguay, which translated into lots of bright (though not primary) colors and organic ikat prints. Silhouettes were loose, hemlines were for the most part, precipitously high, while waist-cinching obi belts and sky-high heels added polish and sophistication. While most designers are at ease creating clothes in black and neutrals, Lockhart's comfort zone is definitely colors—some black leather shorts and black skinny jeans will no doubt be popular with the Geren Ford girl but seemed to lack the free-spiritedness she evoked so well with the rest of the collection.

Here's a little video I took of the finale so you can get a sense of the way the clothing moves and hear the mood-making music...

Actress Tiffani Thiessen, who sat in the front row, fields questions after the show. So pretty and I love her outfit.
