Old Navy's Skinny "Citizen Surplus" Cargos: A Review

Old Navy sent me two complimentary pairs of their new Skinny "Citizen Surplus" Cargos ($34.50) to test and as much as I love the look, they don't fit me right. Epic fail. The crotch is way too low while the calves are really tight. I'm 5'8" and they are about 4 inches too short (I'd have to tuck them inside boots to disguise this flaw). Also, after wearing them for a few hours, they started to sag dramatically. I hoisted them up with a belt but it was a constant struggle to keep those puppies up! Who knows, might just be my body type doesn't work with this cut, but I've noticed similar comments in customer reviews on oldnavy.com despite the positive 4 star rating. This was a big letdown considering how hard it is to find this look without spending a small fortune on the designer brands (, , etc.)

Has anyone else had better luck with Old Navy's slim cargos?

Off the Rack: October Offerings at Old Navy

Last week I visited my local Old Navy with another complimentary $100 giftcard in hand, courtesy of Old Navy, to check out the latest offerings and share my commentary. At the front of the store, I was greeted by a table of supersoft turtlenecks in a wide range of colors - I bought one gray and one black - a great deal at $12 a pop! Next, I noticed racks of what appeared to be last month's cargo jackets, but with a new twist - cozy, fleece linings and faux fur trim on the hoods! They were so soft and warm I kinda wished I had waited and purchased the fleece lined version of this jacket but of course, I still like my plaid-lined one.

As I continued into the store, I found a cheerful display of superbright wool coats in colors like red (including this one worn by Kristin Cavallari), cobalt, green and yellow, positioned beside equally bold plaid skirts. Had the skirts been more of a knee-length pencil skirt, I would have bought one of each color. Unfortunately they were a bit too short and full for my personal tastes, but I still thought they looked and felt great. Other highlights for me included a display of pretty embellished ballet flats, fleece lined moccasins (I bought a pair to wear around the house although I've seen more than one college student wearing hers on the street), a faux shearling vest, a long-sleeve henley (I bought one for layering), and a Breton striped long-sleeve tee (I got the royal blue and white one).

Also, if you're in the market for some new Ugg knockoffs, Old Navy has a huge selection including new metallic, rhinestone embellished and tall furry-cuffed takes on this popular winter style.
