Beauty Review: OPI Alice In Wonderland Mini Nail Lacquer Set

Beauty Review: OPI Alice In Wonderland Mini Nail Lacquer Set

On Friday, I received my OPI Alice In Wonderland Mini Nail Lacquer Set which I had purchased from amazon.com for a grant total of $10.74. My first thought when I opened the Disney-branded box was, "Am I too old for this?" But then I quickly reassured myself that women of all ages can enjoy nail polish inspired by a timeless, whimsical tale that was intended to be read by adults as much as children. And the soon-to-be-released movie is directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp, clearly adult entertainment!

But back to the nail polish. The collection includes four colors: Off With Her Red! is a red-orange creme; Thanks So Muchness! is a lustrous berry red; Absolutely Alice is a peacock blue glitter with flecks of gold in a clear base; and Mad As A Hatter is a mostly silver multi-colored glitter in a clear base. The glitters tap into the whole tripped-out dream world that one imagines when they think of Alice's adventures while the reds invoke her crazy encounters with the Mad Hatter, or the Queen of Hearts. At least that's what they made me think of.

Overall I was really impressed by the fact that you could get away with applying just one coat of the red polishes. I was also impressed with the density of the glitter polishes, which really came to life as you applied each coat. You could also layer the glitters over other colors for unique effects. Sadly, the glitter is a royal pain to remove and chips easily without a top coat (which you will probably need to avoid that scratchy feeling that comes with glitter polishes.) But it's worth it for that mesmerizing glint you get each time you look down at your fingers, especially under street lamps at night. These polishes are best for evening. Can you just imagine how fabulous your nails would look while clutching a martini beneath the dim mood lighting at a swanky bar? A situation I don't often find myself in these days, but the point is that these glitter polishes scream party-time.

Who else is a fan of this collection? Which polish is your favorite?

Sorry, I knew that (really! Alice is the blue and gold glitter cuz her dress is blue and her hair is blond...) I corrected the copy above to avoid confusion. Thx!

Mad as a Hatter is my favorite polish from this bunch - and it's the silver multicolor glitter - not the blue glitter. The blue glitter is Absolutely Alice.

I think the reds look very nice. I cannot stand glitter polish. Just like you said, it feels rough without a top coat and is so hard to get off! Kudos to you for wearing it cuz it does look great and magical!

While I couldn't agree more that you're never too old for Disney, I bought the set last week and still told myself I was buying it to "share" with my 5 year old princess, LOL!

the 'mad as a hatter' polish (silver one, btw! but others have already told you ;-)) has been on my wishlist for a week now... i'm hoping to be able to get it locally here in quebec. i love all these lovely alice-inspired products coming out. that urban decay palette looks quite fun too.

i LOVED these colors, but i had such a bad experience with the glitter ones. even with a base coat, they were nearly impossible to take off. i even used professional nail polish remover! it took forever PLUS damaged my nails :-( i emailed opi and no one even bothered to get back to me.

and i end my rant ;-) f

This combinations of nail polishes provides plenty of variations of creative manicure which can be appropriate for any image you like! I appreciate the choice!
