Experiencing the "PitiCure" With Dove Ultimate Deodorant

Say "PitiCure!" Wendy, me, Val, Mary Jane, Danielle, Jenny and Mary are all smiles after a relaxing day of pampering.

This past Saturday, Dove treated me and a group of my friends to a spa day at A Moment Away day spa in Southington, Connecticut, where we experienced a new at-home spa treatment Dove calls a PitiCure! A PitiCure is to your armpits what a pedicure is to your feet. (Are you still with me?!) It's a simple three step process that sounds silly but all jokes aside, it's actually quite refreshing and great for maintaining healthy underarm skin! Let's face it, no one likes bumps, ingrown hairs and irritation, especially during the summer season when we're baring our arms that much more.

Keep reading to see photos from our relaxing day, which also included complimentary manis and pedis. A huge thanks to the gracious staff at A Moment Away—they totally spoiled us! And a big thanks to Dove for making it all possible and for the free samples of Dove Ultimate Beauty Care deodorant that we all got to take home.

Here's how to give yourself a PitiCure at home…
Step 1: Gently exfoliate using a mild sugar-based exfoliating scrub that won't sting. This removes dead skin that can cause irritation when shaving. (Thanks to Danielle for being such a brave volunteer!)

Step 2: Cleanse the area to remove impurities, then pat dry.

Step 3: Apply Dove Ultimate Beauty Care antiperspirant deodorant, which includes a tri-moisturizing system that soothes shaving irritation and helps replenish delicate underarm skin.

Dove Ultimate smells clean and fresh!

Dove Ultimate is available in Light Radiance, Sheer Silk, Smooth Cashmere and Original Clean. Thanks for the free samples, Dove!

Wendy enjoys a cup of tea. A Moment Away provided a calm, inviting setting. Can't wait to go back!

"This is the life!" says Val.

Mary picks out a pretty shade of polish. I opted for OPI's You Don't Know Jacques matte gray for my fingers and Ogre-the-Top Blue on my toes!

Jenny shows off her gorgeous pink manicure.

MJ enjoys a heavenly pedicure....ahhhhhhh!

Dove Ultimate is available in food, drug and mass retailers for $3.89 - $4.88. A Moment Away Spa is a Central CT day spa offering massage therapy, skin care, hand and foot treatments, hydrotherapy, and spa parties. I highly recommend them if you live in the area! As stated above, our spa day came compliments of Dove and we each received free samples of Dove Ultimate deodorant.

Actually antiperspirants are not good for you. I use a mineral crystal deoderant instead and that is much better for you.

I, too, am concerned with the possible side effects of using an antiperspirant on a daily basis, so I reserve using it for "special" occasions when I can't afford to show sweat stains. For everyday use, I either skip deodorant altogether (yup! and you'd never guess!) or I use one or two swipes of Dove deodorant (yup! I was a fan even before the PitiCure) or Tom's of Maine natural deodorant. Right now I'm also testing a 100% natural deodorant by Alba Botanica...it smells great but doesn't really fight odors if you're really active :-)

I used Tom's of Maine but it started burning after a while. I switched to Thai Crystal mist and it is amazing! Yes I do sweat but no odor!! I had to switch because I was using Secret Clinical Strength and I noticed a lump forming under my arm. Since the change no lump. Also best part no aluminum.

Thanks for the rec, I just googled Thai Crystal mist and it's readily available online and cheap too. :-)

What is it about antiperspirants vs. deordorants that makes them harmful?? Yikes! Well, a couple swipes is ok right?

Antiperspirants use chemicals (usually aluminum) to block the production of sweat whereas deodorants kill odor-causing bacteria without stopping your body's sweating function.

There's been a lot of debate over the safety of using such harsh chemicals over long periods of time as well as the ramifications of blocking sweat production, which is in and of itself, a healthy, normal bodily process.

So, to err on the side of caution, I limit my antiperspirant use to special occasions when I really can't afford to show sweat stains. You can also use an aluminum-free natural deodorant to control odors. Wearing natural, breathable fibers/fabrics is another way to control odor, too! :-)

With so many beauty products on the market it can be tough to decide which ones are right for you. I have severe allergies so wearing fragrances or any product with a scent can be tough. I found a website when I did a search for a natural deodorant. Lavanila products work great and smell amazing! Truly glad I discovered them, their site is www.lavanila.com
