First Look: Material Girl by Madonna for Macy's

Three sketches from Madonna's Material Girl clothing line which will hit store shelves and Macys.com in August.

In case hadn't heard, Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes have teamed up to design a junior's clothing line predictably called Material Girl to be sold exclusively at Macy's. Today we've got our first look at three sketches from the fall 2010 collection, which will make its debut August 3, 2010. The collection, which includes minidresses, accessories, jeans and jackets, will retail at an affordable $12 to $40 pricerange. Keep an eye out for a macys.com/materialgirl website, Material Girl Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as an advertising campaign to launch on Tuesday June 29th.

I'm all for mother-daughter bonding but I can't say I'm the least bit interested in shopping this collection. I want to remember Madonna as a groundbreaking musician and artist, not a celebrity clothing line designer.

Are you excited to see more from Material Girl?

Hi ya babe! hmmmm it looks a tad...how can I put this delicately...skanky? for my taste. Honestly it's very Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman.

I'm actually excited for this collection. I've been a huge Madonna fan for years, and even though I understand what you mean about not remembering her as a "celebrity clothing line designer", 'cause we all know there are way too many of those out there, I still support her, especially if she's pricing the clothes in a super affordable, down-to-earth way.

I hear ya. In retrospect, I wish I had bought something from her collab with H&M a while back but at the time I thought those pieces were too pricey! :-)

I'm a huge Madonna fan. However, if she or Lourdes designed these... I won't even complete the thought. Also, she should fire that fashion illustrator. These illustrations make me cringe.

I've been trying to come up with good comments for the individual pieces, but, truthfully, they are unforgivable considering how well Madonna and Lourdes dress. I would think that from being exposed to great fashion throughout their lives they would at least suggest something with better taste for the rest of us.

Sorry Madonna. I do love you.

It's definitely... fashion-for-13-year-olds. Very 80s middleschool. Meh.

Ehhhh. PASS. PASS. PASS. This is way to young for me, but at the same time if I had a 13 year old and she dressed like this...heads would roll. BUSTIER ON A 13 YR OLD!? hahahahahaha. Okay, sorry Madonna love your music, but this is not your best work. Come on that middle dress reminds me of something I'd see at like Hot Topic.

This looks like it is meant for the teen set. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that designers and celebrity "designers" think that affordable means tacky and cheap.

Mini dresses? bustiers? for 13 year olds? Major epic FAIL!

It doesn't look any different from anything I'd see at F21 or Charlotte Russe, which is to say that it's not bad, but definitely disappointing considering how iconic an effect Madonna has had on fashion throughout the years.
