Target to Launch "Designer Collective" with Past GO International Greats

Past looks from previous Go International collaborations with (from left) Zac Posen, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler.

To mark the fifth year of its collaborations with up-and-coming designers, Target has tapped 17 past participants in the Go International program to design a series of dresses available from March 13 until April 10, 2011, reports WWD.

Dubbed the "Designer Collective," this collection will feature 34 new dresses by Go International alumni such as Luella Bartley (who has since closed down her fashion label), Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk (another label that folded), Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith (who is facing huge financial troubles), Rodarte, Zac Posen (who made a recent cameo on ANTM), and Tucker by Gaby Basora. Gap's Patrick Robinson was the only designer to decline.

Frankly, all I have to do is open my closet to see a Target Go International "retrospective"! LOL. I think this is a clever idea…but does it signal the end of the Go International series? If so, what's next?

I loved the Proenza Schouler Bustier featured at right, but it was just so impractical in daily life....I ran right out and got one, only to return it later...

Hopefully the new collection will feature more iconic looks that are more wearable...

I agree with NYC and Paris.. What I love about the designer looks is that they have definitely been creative but I was hoping for them to be a lot more wearable. I remember when Jean Paul Gaultier's line was Target.. the leather jacket was almost $200...!! I'm sure that's a steal for many who like JPG but at Target?? Eh...

I felt the same way about Mulberry's line.

Anyway, really looking fwd to seeing Thakoon's and Rodarte's collection!! :-D

This is exciting, but I have to echo the sentiments of the two comments above me. I get these are designer lines, but would it kill them to have a little function with that fashion? Regardless, I'll probably still buy one or two of the dresses anyway. Here's hoping Rodarte and Zac Posen have some cute things lined up.

More Thakoon dresses pleeeeeeease!! The blue-and--white shibori print one I bought from his original Target collection is one of my all-time favorites, and to this day I regret I didn't get two of the other dresses.

I also love my Patrick Robinson dress, but I can understand why he wouldn't return to Target since he's now at Gap. No matter -- I'm in love with my boho Gap dresses too! :-)

Why on earth would you think that a retrospective of past designers would signal an end to new collections? If that is the case, then it's a truly stupid move on Target's part, since more and more retailers are depending on guest designers (like Lanvin for H&M, and Norma Kamali at Walmart).

I don't think Target will stop collaborating with designers, I'm just wondering if "Go International" will morph into something new. New branding, new "packaging" so to speak.

I'm betting that Patrick Robinson declined because he had to; since he's in-house at GAP now, contractually he probably cannot design for another retailer. Which is a shame, since he had one of the better Go International collections, IMO.

That's a good idea because I did miss out on some pieces. Makes sense!

See I had heard that the dresses, were the same as was released from the collections. I wanted to rebuy a dress that I spilled something on.
