Off the Rack: Versace for H&M

The Versace for H&M collection hit stores worldwide this weekend, selling out in as little as 30 minutes in some locations. In an unprecedented turn of events, H&M invited me to a private shopping event on the eve of the launch at their Fifth Avenue flagship store, where members of the press and other guests could shop the collection early. Dream come true, right? Sadly I couldn't make it into the city so I sent my new writer KC (who you may recall recently covered the Forever 21 spring preview for us) to cover the party in my stead.

Despite arriving early, KC discovered that the pink studded dress I had set my sights on was already gone from the racks by the time she made it into the store. Craziness! So it was on to Plan B: Grab what you can and sort it out later.

With budget Versace flying to and fro amidst zealous-yet-civil throngs of shoppers, KC persevered while simultaneously giving me the play-by-play over the phone. She got a metallic mesh dress for herself, some earrings for her mom, a black shimmery dress for me and another surprise item which I'll be using for an upcoming giveaway (so stay tuned!).

Of course, eBay is inundated with Versace for H&M (there were over 5,000 listings last time I checked) but we all saw that coming, didn't we. The leather pieces went fast at the shopping event and seem to be in highest demand online. Overall quality was decent, sizing runs small and the items looked as we had expected them to look based on the catalog images and such.

So, who braved the crowds? What did you think of the collection? What did you buy? Do tell!

Say hello to KC, my new fashion correspondent! She got me the shimmering black dress you see her modeling.

There's the pink dress I wanted! Too bad someone else snagged it first...

Dang it! I need to get over to my local H&M to see if there's anything left.

I wandered into our brand new (as of last week) H&M and that store is a disaster. Nothing was left but those mini bags (the hot pink and black studded ones) - Lots of Snooki-esque girls in the store drooling over those ugly mini bags LOL. I'm probably in the minority but I don't think this stuff is for me. I saw a few items I liked in your pics: the sequin dress, purple, red, black dresses, solid/simpler items - but no printy things for me... wouldn't look good on me. Okay and I have to add that the selection for non-straight men is just... WOW. I'm curious to read other's thoughts... LOL :):)

I really wanted the black pleated skirt with the gold and silver studs, but alas, I live two hours from the nearest H&M store with the collection. It was just too inconvenient for something I thought would sell out before I could grab one.

I really wanted a skirt, too, but KC wasn't able to find any. She thinks someone must have just swiped ALL of them in one move (KC saw one guy taking all of the rings). At the general open, people were only allowed 2 of each item.

I also live 2 hours away from the nearest H&M store with the collection so without KC's help, I would have missed out!

I loved that pink dress, too - maybe I will get lucky and find one on eBay!

So sad that our H&M doesn't carry designer item collab. Sucks to see them on Ebay for quadruple the price, those people should be banned lol
I love the black shimmery dress, the leather jackets, that's about it. Not too much of a print person.

What a great collection. I can't wait to visit my local H&M and see what I can score.

There is a men's bomber jacket going on eBay for $799.00. That is utterly insane for a piece of clothing from H&M. Even if it IS Versace
