Experiment: Can You Find Fashion Week Worthy Accessories at T.J. Maxx?

Recently T.J. Maxx challenged me to find accessories for a New York Fashion Week outfit at my local T.J. Maxx store. The idea for the title of this post, however, came from a friend who asked, "Wait...can you really find a fashion week look at T.J.Maxx?" when I told her about my blogger mission. I hesitated. While it's true that you see all the most luxurious global brands on the guests at fashion week - Chanel, Celine, Givenchy, Dior - you also see that high-low mix. I won't name names, but I know Zara high-street when I see it. So I was confident that I could find some fashion-week accessories at T.J. Maxx.

It took some digging but eventually I discovered a Rag & Bone bag on clearance for $139 (had to get a sales associate to unlock it for me -fancy!), a pair of buttery leather Coach ankle boots for $99, a 100% navy wool hat by Hat Attack for $29.99 (sold at stores like Barney's) and jewelry by Rebecca Minkoff (all under $20 on clearance!). I was super excited with my finds especially since these are all designers who either have runway shows or presentations during New York Fashion Week. And these are items I can wear long after...I can't help being painfully pragmatic, so yes, I opted for pieces that I can wear in my real life, too. My accessories really helped dress up my simple black t-shirt dress and give it some edge, which I thought was a good choice for the Betsey Johnson show that I attended. The designer celebrated 50 years in the business with a spectacularly over-the-top show!

Thanks to T.J. Maxx for the giftcard that helped me shop my look and prove that yes, you can find designer duds at a discount!

Well, you did TJ Maxx proud for sure. That T-shirt dress looks super comfy and the accessories were a hit. Makes you questions some of those "other" prices--no names. Great post.
