The recently held Cannes Film Festival was about more than just the movies. Many of the celebrities spend their days lounging on yachts between red carpet appearances...quite the life, right? But, my favorite part about the festival is that is has come to define summer’s top swimwear trends! Below are the major trends that I have noticed from this year: high waisted bikinis, white swimsuits, and the backless one-piece.

1. The Kendall

High-waisted bikinis are definitely making a comeback. We are increasingly seeing major design houses - such as Miu Miu - looking back to the 50’s for swimwear inspiration. But, these bikinis are anything but old. The plunging neckline and cheeky bow ties are sure to turn some heads.

2. The Bella

White bikinis are becoming the newest swimwear trend as they were worn this year by the likes of models Bella Hadid, Elsa Hosk, Kourtney Kardashian and more. Besides, nothing shows off a golden tan quite like bright white! Try pairing one with an oversized hat and cat-eye glasses to make it extra chic.

3. The Kourtney

One-piece swimsuits have been a trend for a while, and it looks like they’re here to stay, which I'm glad about because I, personally, love a one-piece. They’re very comfortable and I definitely worry less about a wardrobe malfunction while wearing one. Kourtney Kardashian proves just how sexy a one-piece can be, opting for a backless 'Baywatch' number that's cut super high, too.

Alison Brie showed off her summer style in NYC as she was seen leaving an apartment building in a black sleeveless top, black and white patterned skirt, and purple suede pumps.

When temperatures soar, I think this is the perfect outfit formula for the office.

Also, I just realized that every celebrity look this week has featured a black and white color palette! First, we had Sarah Hyland in a gingham dress and moto jacket, then Kylie Jenner in striped pants and white sneakers, and now 'Mad Men' star Alison Brie in a print pencil skirt and sleeveless black top.

Black and white is always a good choice, and while I usually associate it with the fall and winter seasons, it's just as easy to wear in the summer. You can always add a pop of color like Alison has done here with her shoes, or mix things up with a colorful top or bag.
