Anna Sui's Gossip Girl–Inspired Target Collection

Anna Sui's Gossip Girl–Inspired Target Collection look book photos

The Cut leaked photos of Anna Sui's Target line waaay back on Friday (eons ago in the fashion world, but with MJ's death I was a tad preoccupied), so in case you missed it, here are 19 looks inspired by characters Blair, Vanessa, Jenny and Serena. Even if you already saw these beauties, let me know what you think in the comments—I'm dying to hear! As for me, I have one word: LOVE. With the exception of looks 10 and 11, I am enamored with all the possibility that this collection holds. Some people are criticizing the looks, saying they aren't true to the Gossip Girl characters, but frankly, I'm kinda glad they're merely referencing the teen drama and don't fall into the realm of costume. Besides, "inspired by" means just that. It's a springboard for ideas, not meant to be taken too literally. Diehard GG fans may disagree. Another plus for me is that Anna Sui's high-end design aesthetic really comes through, which is always something I look for with these mass collabs. Overall, this collection looks far more promising than the nonsense we got from Sui's Designer Collaboration predecessor, Alexander McQueen. Then again, I loved the McQ look book but didn't care for the end result. Fingers crossed for Sui.

The Anna Sui for Target line will be available in 250 select stores and Target.com September 13 through October 17.

Keep reading to see all the looks (in no particular order)...

So glad you posted these! I agree that people shouldn't be upset the looks not going hand-in-hand with Gossip Girl. If Anna Sui had designed the line this way, it would be as if people were walking around in costume. I'm not a fan of everything here, but I rarely am when it comes to the Target lines. I don't like the asymmetrical hem on #2. It looks bizarre to me. Totally weirded about by #10, and it looks like each piece in #19 was shrunk in the dryer. I like everything else very much, however. I think my fave dress is from lucky #7.

This could end up being one of my favorite Target lines. As far as straying too far from GG... Blair's looks strayed about a millimeter--they are dead on and adorable! I don't see a lot of Serena, and Jenny's style is not for me personally, but overall what a cute line. I think the pieces will mix and match well with basics I already have.

Wow,
although I hate gossip girl, i LOVE these outfits for the most part.
I'm very excited for this line! hopefully it won't be an Alexander McQueen sized let down....

Definitely some cute pieces in here. I'm digging looks 15 and 17.

19?!?!? what is that!?? yuck!

But the rest of it - LOVE bb, so great. Too bad, I am going to be road tripping around the world for the next two years and won't have anywhere to sport such gorgeous statements! But I will lust after them all the same.

It'd be rad to have the key to each style and which character from the show they are supposed to emulate. I think I could name each piece except for 2 or 3.

Ooo! I'm excited to see these in person too. I'm digging a lot of it, even though I'm not sure I can pull the length of some of these dresses off.

I want everything. I think this the best collection so far.

I always try and find at least one piece from each collection to buy. Some of the collections have been dissapointing. This one seems to be really good much like the first collections Target carried a few years ago.

Very cute! Love them all! How does one choose? Thanks BB! Can't wait!
#18 Erica on 2009-06-29 20:26 (Reply)
while i love #6 and #17 my one compliment is hem lines! Some of these pieces could be both work AND play appropriate if there were just an inch or two more to them. I hoping against hope that it's just the tall models that makes them seem that short.
#19 Nicole on 2009-06-29 20:28 (Reply)
I'm probably in the minority here, but my fav is #10, minus the strange tights. Most of the looks I think are pale versions of their GG counterparts, but this is the edgiest one of the bunch.
#20 MizzJ (Homepage) on 2009-06-29 22:12 (Reply)
Sorry I know I'm in the minority too but I'm just not wowed, I didn't want it to be costumish but I must say I see little reference to the actual characters and what I love about them. The sunny boho style of Serena's, Blair's tasteful femininity, Jenny's funky clothing pairings though are very evident all over this line.

Like MizzJ said, pale versions.

All in all the pics don't do it for me, gotta check it out in person first and see how everything fits but otherwise I think Sui should have simply designed the line without referencing GG. It's great but a little less than amazing when you think of the truly great clothes the characters wear.

A lot of cute outfits but the hemlines are too short for anyone who can legally drink.
#22 StrawberryGirl on 2009-06-30 00:02 (Reply)
I'll be wearing whatever I buy with leggings :-)

Since I have never seen an episode of Gossip Girl, I cannot comment on how these looks relate to each character. That being said, I love, love this collection. It is possible I can appreciate it moreso because I do not have any reference for the character studies.

I am so looking forward to seeing these in person.
