Off the Rack: End of Summer Finds at Old Navy

Here's what's in store at Old Navy right now.
I've reached that point in the summer where I don't really feel like buying new summer clothes, but I'm kinda sick of what I've been wearing every day (t-shirts and cut-offs, exciting stuff). I popped into Old Navy yesterday hoping to pick up a new boho blouse or sundress to spice things up but discovered employees were beginning to put out new fall merchandise (lots of red, like peacoats and blazers). I wasn't able to see much but it was enough to make me want to wait before spending. But that doesn't mean you should - Old Navy has tons of summer clearance, plus new-this-month tops, shorts and dresses!

Some highlights include these lace-up flats, this saddle bag (which I think I like even more than the Sole Society bag I bought during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale), these peplum camis and these lace-inset tops.

I did not hesitate to buy an army green cargo shirt on "clearance" for $26.99 - I've been wanting one for a while now and the one I found (above) is perfect (couldn't find it online but you can see the "jegging" model wearing it here). I also saw some really good looking olive skinnies, and I think I'll be returning the pair by Madewell I bought during the Nordstrom sale because they're too gray and not green enough, and getting the Old Navy pair instead. Check oldnavy.com for lots of deals going on right now, including 30% off clearance with code JACKPOT and 40% off $75 with code SMART.

Off the Rack: New Who What Wear and More Random Goodness at Target

The Budget Babe gives a dressing room review of Who What Wear at Target.

Earlier in the week I went to my happy place aka Target determined to try on clothes with my two boys in tow. I timed it so they had both just napped, and it worked out pretty well. It would be cool if the dressing room floors were made out of that rubbery stuff at playgrounds, just a thought. Anywho...I headed straight for the Who What Wear display, which rolls out new pieces every month. The first thing that caught my eye was this bell sleeve blouse - it is so on point! My store had one on the mannequin but I couldn't find any on the racks. I'll be checking back for this one!

Off the Rack: Cat & Jack Kids Clothing Arrives at Target

Cat & Jack is the new kids clothing line at Target.
For those of you heading to Target this weekend, you might want to check out the new Cat & Jack kids' clothing collection, which launched in stores mid-July. My store had unveiled apparel and accessories for girls and boys; a store employee wearing a Cat & Jack apron told me that toddler sizes would be arriving August 7. He seemed well informed about the new brand, which is replacing Target's Circo and Cherokee brands, and is poised to be a huge new source of revenue for the second-largest discount retailer in the United States. I overheard a Target manager briefing a group of employees on the new merchandise, telling them they'd be watching sales closely every day, and that Cat & Jack would be "huge." I tried to lean in closer for details but my own kids were making too much noise for me to hear much else.

My First Trip to Primark - A Shopping Review

The Budget Babe gives readers a look inside new fast fashion store Primark, plus a review.
This week I paid my first visit to Primark, an Irish fast fashion chain that's just beginning to open stores stateside. I visited the Danbury, Connecticut location (thanks to a tip from alert Budget Babe reader @booshabear about the store opening), and while I realize this post will be a bit of tease for many of you (Primark.com does not have e-commerce yet), it may only be a matter of time before this discount clothing retailer comes to a town near you. So what can you expect when it does? Think fast fashion quality (Forever 21, H&M) in a vast yet highly organized set-up. Rather than multiple styles on a rack, as is the case at Forever 21 or H&M, Primark has fewer styles available in multiple sizes (which is juniors sizing as far as I could tell).
